wildfowler.250
How do folk on here rate the eley lightening steel? I've been very happy with the gamebore stuff but I'm running low now and Justcartridges have had a back order for ages! Ideally has anyone tried both the gamebore and the eley lightening and how did they compare with each other? I've been using a 36g 3" 3's for the duck so would be after something similar. Is the eley expensive? Any experience would be really appreciated. Needing to stock up and wouldn't be changing off the gamebore if I didn't have to.. Cheers! I would say the mammoths and lightnings are of a similar quality. Probably similar speeds, too. I have killed ducks and geese with both,

Was keen to find out what everyone on here thought first
fenboy
I have used both too , I personally prefer the lightning but both do the job well enough. I think I paid around £9 a box ( 25 ) for the lightning , buy some you will not be disappointed.

I was trying to think of which I had killed the furthest ducks with, and realised I had killed some really good birds with both. All I will say is, I would buy these two brands over any other in the shop.

IEH
I've used the Gamebore loads (36g 3's for duck, 42g BB for geese) for a couple of seasons and been very pleased with their performance, with clean kills as far as I would want to take a shot. I do have a couple of boxes of the Lightnings (36g 3's and 1's) and I've used a few, but not enough yet to form a view as to which I prefer. Penelope
I was told by Just Cartridges last week that Gamebore are not making the 3" at present, hence the shortage. I bought some RC 3" (75mm) 1 1/4oz (36g) loads last week that worked just fine. A number of teal, wigeon and a Gadwall drake can testify to that. http://www.rc-cartridges.com/rc_steel_magnum%3Cbr%3Eatomic_line_36_hp-100.html How do folk on here rate the eley lightening steel? Fal
I use the Eley 32g 3's in steel, fantastic cartridge. The 32g 5's are excellent for close quarters decoying too!!! At one time only gamebore produced a good quality steel load, now I think Eley have the slight advantage.
Richie10
Fired one the other day and it pushed the primer out backwards.

Nice guys to talk to but they just can't seem To get them in. At least if te demand for the gamebore steel is high that can only be a good thing long term? Fired one the other day and it pushed the primer out backwards. Apart from that have you been happy with them? Suppose you're bound to always get the odd bad shell if you fire enough
Richie10
Yep, happy with them but I can't get hold of them at the moment so it's back to the gamebore which i do well with, when there is duck about!
babka3487
I bought some Lightenings (36g #3) to try a couple of weeks back as a local shop had them in stock, I have always used gambore 36g #3 up until now and never had a problem with them but fancied a change. I don't think I've used enough to properly say if I think they are better or worse but I can say I have been pleasantly surprised by the ability to kill duck at decent range - they produced my first left and right at Gadwall so that is enough to win me over! Anecdotally I feel the recoil might be a touch more and the casing is thrown slightly further than the gamebore but this might be my imagination! I bought another 100 the other day so maybe that is an indication of how I find them. I havn't had chance to pattern them yet but will hope to do so soon. Like Richie10 I had one the other day that pushed the primer out has anyone else found this or know why it happen? And has anyone on her put some over a chrono?
