jimmyb79
I believe it's called a Sportsman mount to fit directly to the gun. I use a head mount from Amazon, cost about £12 and is just as good as an official gopro one. Would quite like the Sportsman one though. motty
Why not? Yeah, why not? I personally think that footage shot from the barrel perspective looks awful. In most videos I've watched like that, there tends to be an awful lot of looking at the sky or the ground. In my opinion, a head mounted camera is far better. stubby
I just used one of the sticky mounts to the side of the gun, easy to remove with a hair dryer if need be, I feel that head mounted looks too weird, if you have "windows movie maker" all the looking up at blank sky can be edited out
ollie
Although I don't use a gopro, I must say I prefer to mount my camera on my head. If you are working your dog then you can watch this without pointing the barrels at the dog and you also get a better perspective of the landscape/terrain. I can't watch it when cameras are mounted to the barrels, it looks too wierd.
The Mighty Prawn
Head mount every time, gun swings through etc and is (hopefully) pointing at sky when the chance develops whereas a head cam will capture the whole event fingers crossed Also although I've no proof whatsoever (but that's never stopped us eh PW?) i dont think all that recoil will do much good to your GoPro if you use it a lot
fireboy
head mount all the way

srspower
I used to mount a cam on my gun and found it makes the footage really jerky and its potentially dangerous as you reach around the gun to turn it on and off. I mount my Sony hdr-as15 to the side of my head, works pretty well and I can quickly and easily turn it off and on.

If you mix up head shots, barrel shots and even a shot facing up from the crop to see a pigeon getting shot, then you have three excellent views to use. You'd only have two if you didn't have a barrel mount. and its potentially dangerous as you reach around the gun to turn it on and off. This sounds like bugs bunny/roadrunner 'ACME Video Productions'. Is it really that hard to press the button on the top of the camera without staring down the barrel of a gun?.... srspower
Acme video? Have you seen my pigeon shooting videos? Try turning a cam on or off on the end of the barrel and then try and say its not dangerous in the hide. Assuming we hear from you again... Try turning a cam on or off on the end of the barrel and then try and say its not dangerous in the hide. Assuming we hear from you again... If you're using a GoPro, there's a nice big button on the top to cease recording. I've looked on your YouTube channel, those Sony cameras you use have a huge button on the back to stop recording, so I can't see it being unsafe at all. Just to double check, I just strapped a GoPro to the barrel of a shotgun (ensuring the barrel wasn't in the shot) and everything is within safe reach, ensuring the barrel doesn't point in an unsafe direction or that your hand is at any risk either. Dougy
Probably not the best editing, and also needed to be positioned better, but my phone would not connect to check live view, that was an issue with the phone not the Gopro. As some have said, if that was mounted on the gun it would be mostly ground or sky.
