Winston72
Just been reading through some old posts(only just getting to grips with the site) and came across a few old posts and found some peoples thoughts regarding Capital Punishment (a hobby of mine studying it) and just wonder how people viewed Mr. Albert Pierrpoint saint or sinner i have read about him in depth, I believe him to be quite a remarkable man but still not sure whether he is saint or sinner.I realise many may have no idea who or what he was and this may be an age related topic. Fisherman Mike
Interesting character to say the least...what makes some one want to actually apply to become an executioner as he did... There is a school of thought that suggests he was actually a psychopath and enjoyed killing people...his job actually made it possible to indulged in his pastime legally. What makes someone want to send someone to their death seemingly with such relish ??

I find it strange that it was a job his father and uncle also did. Not sure if he was a catholic and what he had for xmas dinner..... Interesting topic though. Maybe the real saint was the prosecution and judge? I did think along those lines but I'm not convinced it really acted as a deterrent, most murders in the U.K. and are a heat of the moment thing,in one of his books he is very clear on this point, most of his "jobs" were ordinary people who lost there temper
B725
The thing is no goverment will ever have a referendum to bring back hanging as they already know what the result will be.
Winston72
he was doing a job i wish could be caried on out of curiosity,if it was returned, what method of dispatch would you like? I'm still a fan of variable drop hanging, instantaneous death caused by seperation of 2nd and 3rd cervical vertabrae, i know other methods are available but this is humane and quick in my humble opinion,i know when were angry we could consider more painfull things as a means of revenge, but i do believe in hanging as a method of dispatch. The thing is no goverment will ever have a referendum to bring back hanging as they already know what the result will be. Probably not but times change my friend maybe not in our life time but who knows what the future hold's i find it strange we didn't actually lose the death penalty until 1998 it was still held available for 3 crimes i believe. Winston72
Can it still not be used for treason? No,apparently something to do with us joining European Union, it was still held until then for Arson in the Queens dockyard Treason and something else that has escaped me for the minute possibly due to tiredness and wine

What makes someone want to send someone to their death seemingly with such relish ?? The thing that most people do not understand is people think that a psychopath means that they enjoy killing or hurting people when in fact from my understanding it just means that they do not empathize with other people so if they do something to hurt you they do not get pleasure from it like people would step on a bug it does not make you feel good it is just something that you do that is not to say that some psychopaths do enjoy it.
