hepatitis B

Hi gents,

I'm due for some immunisation for the above lurgy, well, I should be soon as I've only been waiting 2 years for it.

Anyhoo, does anyone know what it's all about, I've been told that apparently it means a few trips to the company doctor over a period of a couple of months with several injections and blood tests. Also, are there any bad side effects or reactions with other meds I should be concerned with?

thanks for any advice,

Paddy.

It's no big deal to be honest!

You will be given an immunisation jab - some people have a mild reaction to it, no worse than the reaction to a flu jab - but most people experience no reaction at all. A couple of weeks later, a blood sample is taken to establish whether your body has built up antibodies to Hep B or not.

If there are antibodies present, that is the end of the matter - you are now protected to a large extent, against Hep B and will continue to be until you need a booster in a couple of years time.

If there are no antibodies present, you will be offered another inoculation to see if it works a second time.

its been around ten years since i had the jabs(after a needle stick injury at work) , what youve said above pretty much sums it up , i had no ill effects at all.

Had Hep B jab almost 20 years ago before my first trip to China. in the space of 2 weeks also had jabs for typhoid, rabies, Japanese encephalitis (spelling) also put on a course of anti malaria tablets 2 weeks before leaving. There were no blood tests done afterwards and the only adverse affect had was to the typhoid jab.

That was 2 decades ago things may be different now.
