Fun Afternoon on pigeons

recently there has been lots of pigeon on the rape on one of my permissions but its been very very hard to decoy them. I have read many post from people saying they are having problems too.

Its been a case of one shot and off they go, not to return, at least not to where i have set up.

today i decided to leave decoys on the car and i had a walk and saw hundreds roosting in the wood adjacent to one of the other fields, so i grabbed my seat and sat in the hedge hidden by the ferns, no need for a camo net here as i was well hidden.

well i had a great time there, i only got four though and used way to many cartridges but it was the best couple of hours for ages as the birds returning to the wood were flying in so fast on the very strong wind and were high as well.

conditions were beyond my skill level in all honesty but really enjoyed it.

cheers

When you have been shooting pigeons for years you will come to the conclusion that what you did today was as good as it gets.

ive read with interest your posts JDog when you have done similar and thought id give it a go.

very very testing conditions for me, but i still have a smile on my face and cant wait to have another go.

felt a bit disheartened decoying recently but this has given me a lift

There's a lot to be said for flightlining at this time of year. I managed to grab a gun and hurry out after an unexpected early finish at work yesterday to take advantage of the high westerly winds on a farm with a couple of good roost woods, knowing that I could stand on the windward side of one and catch them as they came in to roost in the other.

Unfortunately, after grabbing gun, cartridges and hurrying Mrs Zapp out of the door to go and check on her nag which is resident at the farm I only had about 30 minutes of decent light left, but in that time I had 12 shots for 7 birds, which I was delighted with as they were coming over fast and were almost overhead as soon as you saw them. Real snap shooting, which I enjoy greatly.
