Frank
Out in the same area once more, after renewing the section 42 to cull a few more fallow with my Cz .223 and Sako 55 gr Sp. Took this pricket at 198 yds, it took 2 odd steps and droped. Their was 46 in a bunch , and the grass was getting eaten fast, prime silage contry where i was. They all took off, like a bat out of hell after the first shot, thought i might get a few more, but no. Have been told to take out another 10  , as the farmers around are suffering from the over population. Their was an article, in a certain irish mag last month, giving out about section 42s and how we should stick to the close seasons, when you see what these farmers are going threw, i dont agree with what was written. What is needed here is proper management, as it seems in the last few years, stalkers are just killing bucks, with big trophys and not bothering with the does, so, in turn, the last 10 years, the population has trebeled. AndyCM
Good shot Frank, Looks like you have 10 outings to plan if you can make each one 100% productive  Keep them farmers happy AndyCM

kip270
Well done Frank. That seems to be the problem here as well, a lot of people just want to shoot Stags/Bucks, but again if the price of shooting does were lowered then more would be culled. It shows that as long as you put the bullet in the right place you will have a clean kill, the .22cf will do the job as long as the shooter doe's his part, and Frank, you are proving that you are a Marksman, and you are doing a good job of it. Now when do you want me over to give you a hand
henry d
Now when do you want me over to give you a hand I could pick you up on the way if we get the nod from Frank
new to the flock
Can I come TOOOOOOOOOOO I must have a .22 center fire in the cabnet somewhere.....if not it is just a phone call away Well done Frank  You are correct, without a balanced harvest of does and bucks it takes very short order for the population control to become doe. NTTF P.S. Henry can I catch a ride?.....I will just leave some cookies and milk out for the kids and a note for Trix and ............. Vegeta
Nicely done Frank Are you located in the Kingdom? If so I am surprised you aren't given permission to shoot even more of them. The deer population in Ireland is exploding but as you say unless people take a few does it will just get worse and worse. Saying all that they are indeed a beautiful animal, fantastic power and balance when on the move.

v-max
Hello & welldone Frank deer management is a job & a hard 1 to do.Many people think of nice weather & a evening stalk or so but deer need to be managed & kept in control & this is a touchie area to work. The female is the 1 that need's to be controled most & most of us with bad/cold weather are half harted in this & then you get problem's like you have. The 22cf are a great round & look at your 223 at a 198yrds nobother ok less room for error but iv see some big cal's lose deer it's bullet placement that win's. Frank
Thanks very much indeed folks. All good points and its very true, CORRECT bullet placement means a lot, also, knowing your rifle inside out and not guessing range ect. The cull, is not going to be easy, i feel like im cleaning up, what other stalking folk have left, just have to get on with it. Hopefully, this will give me a good reason to hold on to my .223, as this summer, their is a whole reveiw of rifles in the new firearms bill that is coming in. I will, at some point, apply and go for a 6.5, time will tell. Kip and Henry, i might just send you over some plane tickets. Thanks all and i will keep you all updated. Frank.

Frank. Frank, I taught they closed the buck season on the 31/12/2006 to try and stop this.. and encourage more does to be shot! Out of 4 stalkers I know 2 were informed of the change in season while the other two only found out in late Janurary!
