Fisherman Mike
If its just for short term use while the gaff is being gutted why not just hire a industrial vac from the local hire centre. Twin motor one would be best with a bit of power.
Dougy
Mr mungler likes his gadgets, hiring one won't give him the buzz of opening a box and playing with the contents.. Keep an eye out in the for sale section, there could be a cheap vac on there soon. ;-)

victorismyhero
if dust is the problem then make a "drop box" or as it is properly known a cyclone to go twixt hose and hoover... I use one for the workshop dust extract and it traps some 90% of the fine dust, along with 100% of the big stuff google "wood working cyclone" hint you dont NEED to make the complicated ones...just a steel drum with an inlet and outlet in the lid .... BUT make sure its a strong one if you bung the hose up a good hoover can flatten a weak drum in spectacular fashion........
Thelongwayup
Numatic NVDQ570-2 I use one with my wall chaser and it sucks all the dust up, so I can grind chases without making a mess. It's got twin motors as well. It uses bags, but I bought a reuseable bag for it. We use a NUmatic WVD model for wet and dry vaccuming. We do a lot of core drilling and it damn near sucks the pavement dry along with all the rubble out of the hole. They do block up at times where the nozzle attatches to the body. We got bored of cleaning it out regular so cut the diverter plastic bit off the back. Lifts 40mm bits of rubble no bother and really gets the area clean. A decent purchase Mungler that will serve you well. It's also excellent for giving the apprentice 'love bites' on his neck when he's not paying attention to the job. Carman06
We bought a nilfisk wet and dry one 35litre I think from machine mart when we were knocking walls down and it is brill. Great suction even when full and filter didn't let any plaster dust through. It was that good I threw out my collection of garage vacuums (5 in total) and use this for everything now. It will be right funny in 20 years time when he comes back to you with a cancer on his neck and a writ in his hand .......... some how I thought toruring apprentices had been outlawed...... oliver90owner
Ya won't find a new 'domestic' vacuum cleaner of greater power than 1200W. The EC recently ruled 1200W as maximum motor power limit. It will concentrate the vac makers (including Hoover) minds on fitting rather more efficient motors than they have in the past. However, if the bags collect the finest of the dust, they will lose efficiency pdq. The only way is to increase the surface area of the dust collection matrix. That would mean a precleaner before the machine, as victorismyhero suggested. Whether a huge surface area bag or cyclone is up to you. No other simple way around it unless you exhaust the dust to the outside via a hose.... and forget the bag! RAB

Jeez......We don't 'toruring' him at all. We don't even torture him. He comes in almost every monday with a neck as black as a fireback from his Girlfriend so I doubt the once in a blue moon vac will make the slightest difference. You had a bad day Victor or something?
victorismyhero
not at all.... He's treat really well to be fair. Paid for his driving licence, get's lunch paid for, work clothes the lot. All we ask is that anyone who works for us works as hard and commited as we do. When work is a bit quieter we can have a laugh and 'rip' each other a little. Generally when being a bit daft with vac hoses etc. It works both ways though with us, we all work hard, enjoy what we do and have a laugh. I know for a fact he enjoys his job and working with us. As much as we appreciate his hard work and commitment to us.

There's a big difference between pulling someone's leg and bullying someone. With me it works both ways. And for mungler, I use a Henry. They take loads of abuse and keep sucking, just wish my missus was like it.
