Dead-Eyed Duck
I have one, and tremendous fun they are. Recoil is surprisingly low. Don't leave your ramrod in place when you shoot, as they can fly out with the 2nd shot (and be broken!)
kiffy
thanks guys and thanks dead-eyed duck for the tip... cant wait to get some shooting in with it, missed muzzle loading so much since i sold my last one dead-eyes, what load do you use in yours? Dead-Eyed Duck
thanks guys and thanks dead-eyed duck for the tip... cant wait to get some shooting in with it, missed muzzle loading so much since i sold my last one dead-eyes, what load do you use in yours? I don't mess about - I use the full 11/2 oz Make yourself a ramrod from the appropriate diameter dowel with a decent 'handle' on the end - a wooden drawer knob works fine if you cannot make one. Then leave the one that comes with the gun at home. Mark off on the dowel the 'full depth' of the bore, and also the depth with the powder and bottom wad, and then if you want to the 'full load' depth so that you don't get paranoid about "Have I double loaded it....?" I use black delrin rod,, cheap off eBay. Threaded on end ,for a jag and glued a wood ball on other end. It slips through a belt or my bag and is all but in breakable. Some Pedersoli doubles have a tiny grub screw bottom rib near the muzzle. Screwed out a little it arrests the rammer. I have used 1&1/4oz loads in mine with just os cards as a wad, they were easy to get past the chokes. I had to drill the nipples to 1mm. Modern nipples are too restrictive! U. bruno22rf
Had problems with my nipples U but I find that if you half cock the hammers before you load the gun then all seems fine with miss firing all but cured. Have fun with the new toy Kiffy, do you have powder/shot droppers big enough for a 10?
Guest cookoff013
1/2 cock? Nipples? Kiff? I think I'm in the wrong forum?
kiffy
Very interesting. Got my taste buds going. Any info please on where to get them and how much? Thanks. henry kranks, £690... heres a link http://www.henrykrank.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=694_920_932_933&products_id=6906 they will send to any RFD but as you probably know most charge you to collect guns so look around locally for one whos a kranks dealer. both my local shops are so they ordered in for me. one thing to note is while the 12 guage is a stock item (and a little cheaper) the 10 guage generally isnt which is one of the reassons ive been waiting since july... the other one is the gun shop i ordered it from, long story but theres little chance of my darkening their doors again thanks for the tips guys, i went out today and was tempted to take it along with my semi-auto but want to make sure i get the loads sorted first. think ill be on ebay for a rod as well as underdog suggested
kiffy
Very interesting. Got my taste buds going. Any info please on where to get them and how much? Thanks. also forgot to mention, compared to a regular shotgun their impractical as hell... and if your a purist and use black powder its a bloody mess.... but its all worth while. muzzle loading is so addictive, thinking of a 20 bore now
Underdog
Cleaning is easy. Find some stiff leather that is long enough to fit across the nipples and is held in place by the hammers. Tie it to the trigger guard for it makes a good safety and stops moister if you don't clean it. Like in the photo below. With the leather in place wrap a disposable kitchen or bathroom cleaning cloth on the jag and work in the barrel. Now just keep pouring boiled water in the barrels and empty down the sink. Keep doing this until crud stops. Use a towel to hold the hot barrels! Next run some cotton patches down to soak the big droplets, the heat will dry the rest. Remove the nipples and wipe down with those wipes and put safe to dry. Wipe breach area down. Put gun muzzlesdown so the heat rises to the breach but before cold get olive oil around the outside breach, hammers and flash guards. Run an olive oil patch down the bores to coat the bores. Add some vasaline to the nipples threads and refit when sure gun is dry. Store muzzle down. U.
bruno22rf
I find that cheap premixed windscreen wash does a good job-followed by boiling water.Black powder muzzle loaders-you've got to love em
Guest cookoff013
after it all gets washed with water, could you remove the moisture by spraying with a oil based water displacement? i used duckoil for my shotguns as it is.

kiffy
well i finally had a chance to take my muzzle loader out today to do a few test shots and patern it, something i like doing with a new gun before i try it on live quarry fired the first shot then went to fire the second and nothing, rear triggers stuffed. worked when i tested it on arrival but the first shot must have shaken soemthing loose or broken something... gutted! carried on wit hthe one barell and what a lovely gun, 32/6 patern was pretty open with some blank areas but the 42/6 was a lot better. i know that more pellets in the gun means more in the patern but i swear it was tighter with 42 grams... could be me going round the bend though as i was really ..... off that the left barell wouldnt work
Underdog
Glad you got a good start with the right barrel. Now, please explain just what is not happening? Is it cocking? Not cocking? U.
kiffy
half cock ok, full cock ok and stuck there... feels like somethings come loose in the trigger as theres more play in it than the front trigger had a lovely job unloading it though... what a pain in the rear
