tonker
Haven't posted pictures for a while now as they seemed to go out of fashion a bit, have seen a few lately so perhaps I'll start a few again. Last year we were asked to cull some Roe( loads on one farm), Although we had a letter of dispensation for clearance, somehow we only managed to take what happened to be in season . But it kept the farmer happy We've been out four times lately and had six. Last time I posted I was using my mates .270 while he was so say mentoring me. I didn't want to lay out a lot on a DSC1 so opted to take a firearms awareness course, on the recommendation of bumpy22. Duly done and variation came back for .243 on open ticket (I already had an open on my rifles up to .222) I'm surprized at the stopping power of this round as of the six I've had only todays made any ground at all (about 10 feet ), as an aside what is the humane range for this round surmising that a shooter can hit what he's aiming at, Todays Doe was at 200yds or thereabouts and all have been between150/200 I'm using Winchester silvertips 95grn, and before anybody says anything about b/tips being no good, every one of them have exited, and put them down on the spot. Enough of this rabbiting, here's the one for today. The rifle is a cheap Howa 1500 with wildcat mod, and an old nikko sterling platinum scope which holds zero very well. Cheers guys Edited March 19, 2015 by tonker
andy clay
hi did it cume back to you on a open ticket as I have had my 22/250 for 10 years for the police to put me on a 3 year restrictioa
Grandalf
I did some rudimentary tests on Winchester Silver tips and they go off like a small hand grenade on impact. They might damage the meat a little but they stop anything.

Must admit I can't knock Avon and Somerset at all on any of my dealings with them. cheers bud

Hi Grandalf, thanks for the reply, I go boiler room on all mine and only seem to loose a bit off the ribs both sides, as you can see on todays, was around the shoulder, but the wind was blowing a bit at the time. it will be interesting to see the damage when butchered. If those Silvertips hit the blades, they certainly came on through ok. I'm quite impressed with them and see no reason to change at the moment. cheers bud Edited March 19, 2015 by tonker
Grandalf
I use them for foxing in my Tikka T3 Hunter and my Remington 700. Both weapons seem to like them.
al4x
Are yours in .243 though grandaf. Most seem to have a heavier construction once the weight goes beyond what you would use on small quarry

al4x
That's why they are explosive 95's are designed for larger quarry, expensive but very good bullets
andy clay
it must be different rules for police as I have been told my 22/250 is still on open ticket and the 243 after 3 year has any one else had this happened to them.

FOXHUNTER1
You asked what range will the .243 knock deer over, Well my mate is a long range shooter and I have witnessed quite a few roe go straight down at 500 yds. Now I know lots of people frown on distance shooting at deer but if the guy behind the rifle is competent ...why not ? So the answer to your question is ......whatever range youre comfortable with....

tonker
May i ask where you done your course please , maybe interested in doing this myself . I did my course at ivythorn sporting, just off the road between Bridgewater and Glastonbury. Google it to find out how to get there. You have to sit a Questionnaire which, most is common sense, but learn the muzzle velocities of .243 22.250 and .17. as I didn't know I was sitting any written test. I thought it was a safety and shooting test. That said they are relaxed and friendly there. If you are sensible you'll do fine. Then it's up to the range for your shooting test, and then a walk around with them asking if this or that is a safe shot. If you decide to go and need any help PM me

Shot for England clay pigeon shooting and won the British Open. I have shot a goat at 500 yds with his rifle and am not the best shot but he dialled it for me , I just squeezed the trigger ...
