Royboy
About 3 years ago I went to get my eyes lazerd but was told my eyes are far to bad to be done, this was at a local eye surgery, now I'm told optimax can lazer eyes that many others can't ?? Has anybody had there's done with these ? My eyes are still not the best with glasses and really would like good vision ! They have been bad all my life Edited July 4, 2015 by Royboy
MrDaveO84
I would seriously recommend you speak to a consultant ophthalmologist before you try any of these 'high street' companies offering laser eye surgery. There is no regulation of these companies and I have heard some horror stories about when it goes wrong If you really want it done I would have a consultation with a specialist at moorfields eye hospital, they do private laser treatments, it isn't cheap but your paying for some of the best eye specialists in the world to fix your eyes and you cannot put a price on your sight imo. I've been in there a lot with my dad while he has treatment and the service they provide is 1st class.

Tim Kelly
+2 Had mine lazered at Moorfields by the top man a few years ago. Very pleased with the results. I'm sure there are limits to what can be fixed, so best to see the best specialist you can before you have some tescos employee have a crack at your eyes. Royboy
Well it's a good job I posted on here because I thought optimax was a top place, I didn't realise you could got to a private hospital for it, what kind of about price is it ? The good thing about Optimax is you can pay monthly.
Medic1281
You can always get a loan to pay for it and pay that monthly, possibly at a better rate too.
Royboy
Yeah good point mate, are we talking 20k to go to a private hospital ?
MrDaveO84
I was quoted around 3.5k but my eyes aren't that bad so depending on how complex it is yours may be more. Like others have said you can get a loan and pay monthly
Royboy
That's not a bad price but as you say my eyes are bad !
MrDaveO84
I would book a consultation and have a chat with them, you never know it might not be that much more for you and they might be able to help you. I didn't go ahead with It in the end as I thought I would wait a few more years. I'm only -1.75 in Both eyes so not bad at all really
point and shoot
Your eyes are very precious. I had the lenses in my eyes surgically replaced last year. Fantastic result but only after very thorough research into the surgeon. You only get one chance to get it right! Its very interesting to google some of the high street operators. Quite frightening in some cases. Good luck with your final decision.
LondonLuke
Boots used to offer this in the 80's until they burnt someone eyes out and vowed never to touch the process again. Scary stuff even with a high street name. Edit - clearly early 2000's not 80's! Edited July 5, 2015 by LondonLuke

Spoonbed
I had my eyes lasered by optimax back in 1999( prescription was -4.75) Whilst not an enjoyable experience, procedure was a success and had 15yrs of perfect vision. Trouble is, I have a slight deteriation of vision in right eye, and due to the laser changing the surface of the eye, contact lens no longer fit
danny12w
has anyone had the implanted contact lenses instead of the laser surgery??
MartynGT4
A friend who wore contacts had it done by one of the high street companies (not sure which), after a few months he had to go back for another go because his night vision was really bad, 5 years later he's wearing glasses again! He explained the process including the bit where he got to smell his eye's burning... put me off for life. This is worth a read http://www.lasikcomplications.com/is-lasik-safe.htm Things may have improved in recent years so much of that may be irrelevant, but even so, getting eye surgery \ advice from someone who stands to profit from the procedure concerns me.. clam6364
I had mine done at Optimax about 10 years ago, best money I ever spent , still don't wear glasses and sight is still very good. Think it was 8 seconds an eye ,little bit uncomfortable but once I started putting drops in it was fine, the surgeon wore glasses take from that what you want

ferguson_tom
Couple of people I have spoken to had it done at Moorefields and the price wasnt that eye watering compared to the high street names. However there are a lot of people out there who have had good results from Optimax and Ultralase, they couldn't been going as long as they have if they were blinding people every week. The number they do its not surprising mistakes happen or procedures go wrong but as a percentage of the amount they do is their success rate that much less than moorefields or similar??? SpringDon
I had lasek rather then LASIK after seeing someone's corneal flap lift in a martial arts class. LASIK isn't recommended for any contact sports.
clam6364
Do you still have to use drops ?. Only drops for 24 hrs, I would describe like getting a flash of a welder ,lasting a couple of hours
SirDread
I have had the IOL's and it was worth every penny. 3.5 years since I had them done and not regretted it. I had to have additional treatments due to complications which are called out. The surgeons that do IOL's for the top high street centres are actually the senior specialist that also operate in the NHS. Gives you a lot warmer feeling than straightforward laser that is not as regulated.
