chady
Hi all Another one hear looking into getting a pickup. It will not be used for off reading. Would I be better of getting a manual or automatic! I like driving autos. But worries me about the torque converter going on it? Thanks for the advise Jamie
ferguson_tom
I would be a lot more worried about wearing out the clutch on a manual rather than damaging a torque convertor. I wont go back to having a manual 4x4 now especially as they are so effortless with towing.
robbiep
Whereas I'm more of a manual gearbox person. Too many electronics in every autobox these days for my liking, and any of the systems screw up , you're stranded.
Jay_Russell
In a 4x4- auto everytime. Plenty of power and torque to give smooth power delivery and effortless driving.
Kalahari
If you don't intend to off-road, why get a 4WD pickup? If you are going to off-road and you are any good a manual is lots better. You pay more in fuel consumption with an auto. David.
chady
Thanks. I'm looking into one as I'm a builder/bricky and more family friendly than a van. I don't know how long torque converters last for and how much they cost to replace. So just had me concerned

Essex Keeper
Auto !
silver pigeon69
What engine size do you want? The Hilux 3ltr has quite a hard clutch pedal which can be a pain (literally) in traffic. Auto for me.
chady
Thanks all. I'm not bothered about size of engine just the most economic. So do I have an easy drive and it cost slightly more in fuel Or do I have a hard drive but cheaper running costs!
andypaint
But the cost of a dual mass clutch will take out the savings you made on a couple of mpg over the auto
jonny thomas
Auto all day there's no need to be scared of auto's they rarely give any trouble I had a jeep Cherokee for 5 years it never missed a beat There's a dammed sight more things to worry about on a 4x4 than the auto gearbox
chady
Valid points I think you have sold the auto! I do like driving autos!!
Dougy
I have an auto 3ltr invincible and would have another tomorrow. (that's a good idea) off road through deep doo doo the only problem is ground clearance. Very easy driving.
