snipers eye
hi folks i have just bought a .22 cz 455lr with 16"barrel,im using a sak mod with an ns50 night vison, trouble is i get a white glow at the bottom of the screen using the sak mod, that glow goes when i remove the mod,and i get a nice clear picture,im thinking the sak is to chunky,so would a parker hale mod be better since its slimmer?thanks all

fortune
A friend of mine has the same problem but on a 222. he has tried to stop this reflection from his mod without any success and has ended up not using the mod which has cured the problem. I haven't seen this setup but surely if there is a reflection the answer must be to move the illuminator to a different angle/place or blank the source and set up a remote illuminator under the barrel line so that the reflection will go in a different direction. Unless I am thinking totally stupid.

fortune
hi,i dont think your idea would work with the ns50,as the ir and screen are one peice, but if anyone has over come this problem, post results/pics,thanks I don’t know the unit in question but if there is an IR source on the unit that is illuminating forwards, causing a reflected glare back then why can’t that source have a bit of tape put over it to blank it. Then put a separate source on the gun in a position that wont reflect up off of the mod E.g. down lower. I liken this to lamping with white light on a night when there is a fair bit of moisture in the air and you get a sort of white out caused by the white light reflecting back off of the water droplets in the air or the lamper gets behind the gun and you cant see through the scope for the mirror image on the scope. In both instances it is a reflected light source that is causing a problem. In both instances the way to resolve the problem is to get the light source away from the visual line to the target and the further the better. It is relatively simple to make an effective black light filter to convert any white light lamp to produce IR light that can floodlight the ground and a target. I’ll ask my mate if he tried anything other than put a matt black silicon sleeve on the mod. Or do like he did and take the mod off.

fizzbangwhallop
I got reflection from my moderator from a side mounted torch on a Photon XT 6.5 and discovered that it cured it when I put my finger across the bottom of the 'scopes objective so now there's a width of insulating tape on there. ....might be worth a try. Cheers Fizz
ben0850
I've found by using a sunshade to extend the actual scope any reflection from the mod disappears, might be worth a look?

Dougy
Fizzbangwhallop PUT A STRIP OF INSULATION TAPE OVER THE BOTTOM 1/4 OF THE SCOPE Yes I,m shouting, not in a nasty way though its a question thats asked very very often, Its a very simple fix too. forget about raising the scope, to get rid of the glare it will be a silly height, and a more expensive option, the sunshades will more than likely need to be a sill length too 6" maybe more sometimes, and again an expensive fix. The sock, well i didnt try that, Grandalf gave me a tip years ago suggesting a hair thing that women use called a scrunch. kept loosing it though it worked too.
