silver pigeon 3
I know this has been wildfowler 325's thread for a few seasons but as there isn't one yet I thought I would start one! Just got back in from morning flight and had a nice start with one plump hen mallard in the bag. Few birds about but only had the one chance and happy to put the first bird in the bag Just glad to be back out there.

Fal
I couldn't make it out this morning, I will be checking the tides to see if I can get out later this evening though. First year I haven't been out before work for years! :(

fenboy
Well done on a decent start , I never went this morning , I feared the big tides would concentrate fowlers into a few small areas and I did not want to be sitting on someones lap , I did not get on the marsh until the 5th last year so I can wait another day or two. I will be having a go inland tonight though.
bobshooting
Morning flight on the North Norfolk coast, 3 mallard, my best start to the season for a long time. There weren't many birds about, I was just lucky that what few there were came my way. Saw only mallard, no other kind of duck, 1 small bunch of greylag seen on the farmland as I was walking off. The rain stopped as I got out of the car and started again as I got back in. I think I have used up the whole seasons luck on the first day. kent
Saw half a dozen red hinds no duck no geese Big tide limited my options after my plan was foiled by an even earlier bird than me getting to my selected location earlier
tony51
Frustrating morning as my gun jammed up first shot and then the breach wouldnt completely close, sat with it in pieces as widgeon after widgeon was trying to land into my decoys.More widgeon about than normal on the first with a good smattering of Mallard. My mate shot a widgeon and mallard whilst i could only look on in dismay, at what would have been a great morning. Eventually managed to fix it but of course by now the flight well over well, except for a skein of greys that obviously had been sent by the wildfowling gods to compensate my earlier agonies with one of their number now hanging in my garage ready for plucking. Wildfowler12
Not the nicest picture as I went to the 'least scenic' area on our marsh for morning flight. As is often the way on the 1st, my shooting appeared to be on poor form missing 2 easy gadwall and an even easier mallard. Perhaps even poorer form was the dogs behaviour - running in on 1 of my neighbours birds, clearly frustrated with my misses! Things picked up though, and I ended on a Canada goose and 4 mallard
figgy
Wildfowlers 12 your dog looks content to be covered in mud again. My dog knows it's time he's been getting excited for last few weeks as the nights draw in. Not daft our shooting companions. Well done to all who made the first flight of what I hope to be a good season.

ratty1
A blank for me, tide pushed me back into the reeds so called it a day early and watched the rest of the flight from the bank, nothing much moving. Nice to be out though, dogs enjoyed there selves.
fenboy
Well I got off the mark this evening all be it inland , a Greylag and a Mallard found its way into my bag . I was surprised just how dark in was when the geese arrived as they are usually before the duck it was getting dark before we saw any action. malkiserow
I daren't shoot any ducks as all this rain has meant the wheat is still out there and **** law, all my little ponds are surrounded by wheat so I think I will wait until the fields are clear first. dawntredder
Well done on a decent start , I never went this morning , I feared the big tides would concentrate fowlers into a few small areas and I did not want to be sitting on someones lap , I did not get on the marsh until the 5th last year so I can wait another day or two. I will be having a go inland tonight though. I also go on the 5th or 6th for that very reason and a mate off here went and said every Fowler and his dog was there they all blanked after plenty of shooting and he tlennox got himself a cock wigeon & a mallard...I will be up at wkend (Lindisfarne);-)
Guttersnipe
Been waiting for the morning of 1st September for ages and it didn't disappoint - a beautiful dawn and a decent bag - found a quiet corner of the marsh and managed 3x teal and 2x canadas - more than enough to carry off when i've had a summer getting soft...
