krugerandsmith
I had a great day there yesterday but .... Please folks keep your dogs out of the stalls in Gun makers row they are crowded enough without tripping over your pets.
Scully
But isn't that what game fairs are all about? Countryfolk and their dogs? I don't take mine to game fairs but that's just for her benefit, not mine. Edited September 20, 2015 by Scully
evo
have to agree with scully,,, if you don't want dogs in the stalls then BAN dogs,,,,, don't think that will happen somehow, not been this year as the last time I went too much stealing from cars went on, if I was told I couldn,t take my dog I would never go again, Kruger,,,,where should we put the dog whilst we walk around the stall

Agreed and as for the people saying dead birds on flappers was disgusting, just what did they expect to see at a game fair, brian may cuddling badgers? edit: the comment about the flappers was for the other thread about the game show. activeviii
"Gunmakers Row"............that's a joke. The whole show is shrinking and very dissapointing. The food was awful, i had a cup of tea with more limescale in the cup than tea! I looked at 7 stands in a whole day. Not that I'm an airgun man but was the range just tuny compared to before? Very few big manufacturers showcasing their wares. Yes for shooting, the British Shooting Show has stolen the market now, the midland is good for selling wellies cheap enough to throw away at the end of the day because they are covered in dog poo. I have to agree with you. I thought the cla had gone bad this year but the Midlands, well that's me done with them now. If you like to eat over priced junk foods, drink cider, have ear plugs made and then walk around a car boot sale then you will be right at home. One person selling ammo. One selling reloading. Couldn't find any cartridges other than if your reloading. Only one of the bigger gun makers. Air rifles very poor turn out to. After all the years I have been going this now was my last. Not wasting my time and money on it now. I'll stick with the shooting show and that's it now.
krugerandsmith
evo. If you went into a paper shop or Super Market you would tie the dog up outside. Why not at the show? The stalls were packed with people inspecting the guns . Not fair on people or dogs. Fister. Absolutely correct .... I bought a burger ....Bloody hell think the cow must have been stampeded down the Chisholm trail Tough as old boots.
Dandaman_24
It's all about the £. Awful lot of £20's walking around. As I was queuing up to get in, there was a guy walking into the event with 3 dogs at heel off the lead, is it me just being a bit too sensible here or is it perfectly normal to walk around a massive event with your 3 dogs off the lead ? Archie-fox
I had to chuckle because friends of mine working on a stand from what we might call one of the world's premium gun makers forgot to bring much cash. I looked after them through the day and they returned the favour and took me out for dinner yesterday evening in a very nice pub along the road. We ate T-bone steak for the price of three half baked baguettes filled with `pulled` pork.(everything is pulled these days, I always used to slice and carve rather than shred or mechanically tear apart). Food and drink at the BSS is better and cheaper, its a lot better and a lot cheaper at the Doncaster show in a couple of weeks and I'm sorry, the big outdoor show is just dying, its either rained off and flooded, too hot and people whine that we have a day of summer or at the other end of the country. BIG names I spoke to are all very much of the opinion that the smaller more focussed and regular events are where the future lays. I wasted a day, I wont again. South Yorkshire Gamefair, yes, Newark Stalking Show, maybe, BSS Yes, IWA yes, Jagd & Hund yes, CLA, CBA, Midland, FN. Glad I missed it again this year!!! Sounds like it's had its day... :-(

PhilR
We're relatively new dog owners, nine months, and took our dog to the show. We've been to quite a few gamefairs in the past and couldn't understand people dragging their dogs around them. However, the boot is now on the other foot. We had five alternatives, as we have no one to look after him whilst we're not at home. 1. Don't go to these events. 2. One of us stops at home with the dog. 3. Leave the dog at home for a number of hours by himself. 4. Take the dog to the show and leave him in the car. 5. Take him into the show with us. We chose the latter and despite misgivings it worked out ok, he's a sociable dog, and being around a lot of people and close proximity to other dogs probably did him some good. When there were stands either my wife or I wanted to look at the other stayed outside with the dog. Picking up our dog's poo is part of everyday life where we live and we always have a supply of poo bags with us, so no big deal at the show. It must be the best part of ten years since we last managed to get to the Midland Gamefair and sadly this this will probably be the last as it wasn't a patch on years gone by. krugerandsmith
rimo26. As the owner of a very expensive Springer award winning gun dog ... yes would and have left my dog outside shops. evo. Things are not that bad in Upton ... often left my black and white beauty outside paper shop while waiting for my daughter at the convent. philR. You said.... WE ....So there must have been two or more of you in you group ... So why didn't one of you mind the dog outside?
spinach
I like seeing the dogs not sure why people wear camo, although I can see why wax or green jackets and moleskins look not too out of place at a shopping mall !! I'm sure most dog owners made the right decision. Not too many bargains even if they could syringe your ears now ! SXS sidelock sabel £1845 reduced to £1445 seemed a little expensive!!!!!!! I had a good day nonetheless . Bought an equathingy fleece and the kindness of the women ,one especially who offered me a disposable heat pad as my back was really bad was life affirming and they'd been there two days. One stall holder said there'd been quite a lot of stealing Sat night and they'd paid £600 for fuel for the generator might just explain the lack of real bargains. Game fares aren't really my cup of tea(well not at £2 ) There are more reasons to not go than seeing dogs in gun shops but each to there own. John. Was nice to see my pals wife treat herself to a new shotgun, and i wish her well with it. By 4in the afternoon we had enough my poor old legs and back were aching. old man
watching a pensioner train a falcon with a bloody drone she cant get to work and all you hear is her moderately balding assistant Oi! that's a trifle un PC? old man
Perhaps this? "***" is a free and open old thing designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency? Describes us to a tee? No offence taken by the way, my humour obviously did not cross the age divide? Must try harder not to cause offense.
