subsonicnat
Well took the dog for the usual walk in the morning, got the dog out of the car, Noticed a movement behind me, thought it was a young Hen Pheasant.. As it hopped forward realised it was a Woodcock, should be coming in now anyway. it was an Adult, but on a Barren turned over field?, there was cover the other side of the track so probably where it came from.. Only about 6ft away, I would have loved a camera and got a shot ,but it was away pretty smartish.. Cracking bird..

darren 67
Saw about 7 today on a small wood we was shooting. One got up over me and I shot it. Was my first one (chuffed to bits). Only to be told after the fact that we wasn't going to be shooting woodcock today. The other lads said as no one had told me and it was my first one I could be excused and congratulated me all the same. Sort of knocked the wind out of my sails, but they really was ok about it. Don't know if I would shoot another unless two presented a shot for a left and right then I would probably not shoot any more.
Scully
Saw only one on our rough shoot a couple of weeks ago but three on syndicate day last Saturday...unless I saw the same one three times of course.
Whitebridges
Two were seen on our last shoot day last week. We have another day this Friday and suspect we'll see a few more. We don't usually start shooting them until a bit later, depends on numbers.
Nmb
We are having our annual woodcock day on Saturday so hopefully there will be a few about. We traditionally have good numbers so fingers crossed. It's a privilege getting the chance to shoot at such amazing birds and a day spent hunting the heather with my springer is the one I look forward to most as the season approaches. jason kaye
I shot two (not a right and left sadly) the Saturday before last and they were the first I'd shot in a long time and I have to admit after admiring them felt a bit of remorse for such fine birds, so I have now decided that they will be the last Woodcock I will shoot, I have no problem with what others in the line do just no more for me, must be going soft in my old age (44yo)
