Dave-G
Doubtfull he'd get it and I agree with that too. If someone is so full of themselves that they will risk driving while under the influence of drink, a well publicised offence, then perhaps they would also shoot... and behave in a manner that differs from their normal sensible actions. Cranfield
An acquaintance of mine was rear ended on the M1 at 9.00am one morning, on his way home from a Course in London. Standard procedure, all drivers involved were breathalysed and he was still over the limit from the night before. Lost his licence. was demoted at work (couldn't drive for a year) and lost his FC and SGC. This only happened about three years ago, so I expect the policy is still current. pin
If you have FAC/SGC and get caught, yep you will loose them. The question was if you have been convicted previously, will you be granted (Unless I misunderstand the question). The answer there would surely be, how long ago was the offence? If this guy was caught years years ago, and has been out of trouble since then, perhaps he has a chance. He would need to be fully forthcoming on the application form and have to be able to prove he had changed I guess.
08shooter
i think in n ireland here the person has to wait ten years after his conviction. and have a clean record since that.i heaerd this lately rabo but you can ask elsewhere just to be sure
dazza
he hasn't a chance of getting his FAC over here if he's been convicted of drink driving

Devon Fox
I think the law is spot on here. How can you claim to be a fit and responsible person after being convicted of drink driving? Drink drivers are filth, period. A very close friend of mine lost his mother, and very nearly his little sister to a drink driver, it pretty much destroyed his life. dazza
if you can't be trusted behind the wheel of a car how can you be trusted with a gun? My mates mum was also killed last year by a drunk driver
Blackpowder
just wondering my friend was caught under the influence and is going to apply for a gun,no chance Heard of someone in the Lothian and Borders Police area who was convicted of dd . Allegedly he had to appear in person before chief constable in Edinburgh and apologise, but to my knowledge he retained f/a and s/g certificates. This was perhaps five years ago. As already quoted,"is a drunk driver a fit person to hold f/a or s/g certs.
JohnGalway
if you can't be trusted behind the wheel of a car how can you be trusted with a gun? Have to agree with Dazza here. I live in a very rural area, I go for the odd drink, but when I do I never ever drive. It's not worth what could happen to other people or to yourself. Guest rabo
I agree with dazza too, just some thoughts in my head,im sorry to hear about some of the lads tragic experiences with friends or family members, drink sometimes is a curse it ruins lives and familys, i know people that or ruined because of it too,.,..back to the FAC the courts and police are maybe a bit leanient sometimes because its the morning after,im sure we all know somebody who drives the next day. Lefty gunz
A friend of mine was done for drink driving and abh about 5 years ago and had no problem getting a fac, bit scary really but he was honest and up-front with the flo. If it was afew years ago and hes been out of trouble since it might not be a problem.

death from below
I recently went for a few beers(quite a few) and over did it....woke up early the next morning and thought should I risk it.....little voice with a huge larynx inside me told me what to do.......jumped in cab that cost me 45 quid to work....and took it easy that day.....took tube home(work in london...live outside). The moral of the story.....don't take the p***....if you do and get caught.....don't come to me complaining....as can be seen from the posts....drink drivivng does wreck lives.....would you want a shooter next to you who takes these risks.........not me. njc110381
As has already been mentioned, it depends how long ago it was. As you've said a year, I doubt it's going to happen to be honest. I was a little sod when I was younger and got in some trouble, but that was 8 years ago now and I've recently been granted a SGC and FAC. People do change with time, I'm a completely different person now to what I was 10 years ago and would never do anything bad intentionally. The FEO recognised that, and has given me a second chance. Tell your mate he's a ***, and that he needs to sort himself out and wake up a bit. Maybe in time he may change and be respectable enough to hold a gun license, he certainly isn't at the moment
lurcherboy
I have two and was told when applying for my SGC that another one would be a no-no. I recently gained my FAC and the officer never raised the issue BTW the last conviction was 12 years ago. LB
SNAKEBITE
Sounds like it could be one of those "The same rules never apply to any two different areas and even if it did it is always open to interpretation!" type answers. God bless the FAC/SGC system where nothing is ever as simple as it should be! Standardisation? Hah, too easy!
