YODI
Hi guys I have bought a few scopes, always new and the last one cost me £200 and I felt it was a waste... I have a CZ455 .22lr and will us it for bunny shooting, day and night. I have been doing some reading and come up with 2 scopes, can you guys say which one is better and why? The stock scope the kit came with is properly cr4p, and don't want to spend loads this time.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371348368339?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIThttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121839706181?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Thanks for the help Yodi This is the scope that came with it: Edited December 28, 2015 by YODI
zipdog
Both are good enough options for a 22r. However personally I would buy a Nikko stirling Gameking 3-9-40 for £30!! http://www.jsramsbottom.com/products/riflescopes-nikko-stirling-gameking/nsgk3940-nikko-stirling-gameking-3-9x40-mil-dot.html
zipdog
Additionally Js ramsbottom are still cheeper for your listed Nikko option. http://www.jsramsbottom.com/products/riflescopes-nikko-stirling-mountmaster/nsmm412500aoir-nikko-stirling-mountmaster-4-12x50-px-adj-illuminated-reticule-riflescope-with-mounts.html

zipdog
personal preference really the gameking is half the money, yes it doesn't have x12 magnification but for a 22lr i doubt you will ever require over x9. Further the gameking is x40 which I feel is lighter and easier to carry and use than a x50 and x40 still lets in plenty of light.
YODI
Thanks again, I shoot a lot at night so thought the £50 would be better for light too, and it has lit reticule.
rjimmer
I doubt you need to spend extra money on a variable magnification scope for what you will be doing. Spend it on a bigger object lens to gather more light.

oldypigeonpopper
hello, i have a 455 with the new hawke rimmie scope, depending on what you do night shooting lamp/torch i find the hawke scopes best to 100mtrs depending on mag and reticule. on my rifle now is a photon till the early spring. hello, i have a 455 with the new hawke rimmie scope, depending on what you do night shooting lamp/torch i find the hawke scopes best to 100mtrs depending on mag and reticule. on my rifle now is a photon till the early spring. i mean hawke for quality on price and a good range of models
rjimmer
Do you have a recommendation please? Nikko Stirling Gold Crown 8x56? I had a 6x40 Gold Crown on my .22 for 40 years. Did me OK until I wanted something bigger.
tweedledee
Leupold. All the scope you will ever need.buy once buy right
eddoakley
If it's a choice between nikko and hawke then for me hawke every time. Had literally dozens (at least) of each and hawke always seems better to me in every respect. However if I was looking for something for .22lr I would be looking for something like a meopta 7x50 or maybe leupold fixed mag (although I don't get on so well with leupold) Just my thoughts. team tractor
The mountmaster is an ok scope and it's clear to 150 yards but I've just bought a Nikko Panamax that's superb. I also have a hawke sport HD that's really good to but struggles on closer targets without turning the mag down
Andy RV
if you're using it at night then the quality of the glass is far more important that variable zoom ect. I've got a leupold 6x42 on my .22lr and its all you'd ever need. A fixed mag scope from a quality brand such as Leupold, Metopa, (Japanese) Bushnell, Schmidt, Nikon ect is better money spent then the Chinese offerings. tweedledee
My point is better to go for good optics from a good brand .point and shoot.no ao or turrets to worry about
YODI
Slight development, I found this today, I got it brand new with an Air rifle kit I bought and took it straight off, would this be okay do you think?
eddoakley
That'll do the job. Pretty much anything will on a .22 I would personally prefer that to a nikko. But if you follow the advice on here and find a fixed mag from one of the premium names you will never go back to cheap glass. What you have will serve it's purpose but try to have a look through something else to compare. Edd
YODI
Thanks Edd, I had a look at the Leupold but they are way above what I want to spend for the time being. If you can recommend something for <£100 let me know Many Thanks

bang bang birdy
Your better off saving a bit more money and getting some decent glass. You will only end up buying two or three different scopes and not being happy with them. See it as a investment you can also put them on other rifles you may own. I have a Simmons WTC on my 22lr and 357mag and are very happy with them

welshwarrior
As a rule of thumb if you spend about the same on your scope as rifle. Your looking at pretty poor glass IMHO, this will not allow to ring the most from your rifle. You'd get a good WTC for £100 which would be ok.
