Muddy foxing

One of my mates has some ground that I have had mixed luck on when it comes to the foxes. The last 2 or 3 times I have seen foxes but normally running off at high speed. Most of the time this is due to the wind being in the wrong direction, full moon, high noise levels due to squelching around the fields (thats it for the excuses).

I decided that as there was a break in the weather I would pop up last night. After a nice brew with my mate I set off on my merry way. For once the wind was good and it was nice and dark (I appreciate that as it was night that is how it should be  ). I normally walk through a couple of flat fields and set up the caller on a field that runs down to a wood and gives good views and a reasonable shooting position. I checked the field with the lamp and saw a flash of eyes which could only belong to a fox. Looked through the NV to confirm my suspicion. To cut a long story short there were 2 foxes (dog and a vixen) who werent that interested in the caller or coming anywhere near me and flitted all over the field for the next 5 minutes and didnt present a shot. I wasnt massively impressed as I was wet and soggy after lying down...on a number of occassions...in a muddy field. The pair disappeared for a while but came back into the field and I managed to get the vixen into a shootable position using the good old hand call (the foxpro didnt get any interest). She fell to an 80 grain .243 soft point at about 70 yards. Due to the angle the bullet hit her square in the chest and exited taking most of her insides with it. As such I didnt think it appropriate to take a pic.

The dog fox was long gone so I headed to the other end of the ground. The foxpro and vixen call worked well and I had a dog fox come in after about 30 seconds. 70 yard chest shot and no 2 was on the ground. I am not sure if this is the same dog or not but happy with the pair.

Spoke to my mate this morning who was very happy as he is looking at getting some more chickens for the kids (foxes have killed the last 3 sets).

Thanks for reading.

Mike you are certainly putting the work in and deservedly getting the results despite this rotten weather, well done

Thank you kindly mate. Off out again tonight so fingers crossed for a fox or 2

Well done Mike

Cheers buddy. Looks like the weather may behave next week and then it will be "icy foxing" rather then "wet foxing".

:good: Still haven't been out ,,bloody rain,

Not much fun at the moment mate. Not sure where you live but the North has certainly had some shocking weather of late. Looking up for next week so I look forward to your bumper outing pics
