well today I was at Beverley with Norm ( V8 90 ) shooting some trap , halfway through I thought I would have a look on the pattern plate , only had the gun 3 weeks and not had chance to have a proper look at what its throwing ,

so from 25 yrds

Gun used was a MK 38 Fixed choke 3/4 full

the pattern sheet used was 30 " X 30 " ( not that it needed to be that big haha )

bottom barrel ( fixed 3/4)

Chuffin heck , no wonder you have been breaking them better than me

It would have been interesting to see your aiming point so I could see how high its shooting.

yeah didn't think about that adi ,

sam was shooting well today !!

Pardon me for sounding stupid, but does it make a difference in pattern if it is a trap gun?

I mean surely any gun with 3/4 and full would throw those patterns at 25 yds wouldn't it ???

Nice layout there at Beverley stevo.

hmmm yes and no , it was just curiosity , I knew it was going to be tight , however fixed choke guns in my experience pattern better/more consonantly than multi chokes any day of the week , plus I also want to check my point of aim .

and I'm willing to bet that five diffent guns all with 3/4 and full choke would throw different patterns

and yes Beverley is a nice ground , you can waste a lot of time there haha

Great patterns those. I've never patterned my full chokes ( or any other actually ) but it's nice to be given some idea of how it looks 'out there' where the pigeons and crows are. Thanks for that.

All my loads are fibre from necessity, so I really should pattern them at some point, out of interest if nothing else.

I would have them opened out to be honest....a pattern like that is not much use for anything.

Really ? What not even for shooting edge on targets at 40 yrds plus ?

Perhaps you should have marked your point of aim at the sheet.

Do you think 25 yards was a suitable distance for a trap target. Would it not be more.

Not when you only 25 yrds to play with

Like i said i knew where i was aiming and its giving me a 70/30 which i like .

i miss my grade 1 MK38 terribly if im honest...

that too was a fixed 3/4 + full. used to batter clays edge on at 40/50/60 yards.

moved on to a grade 3 that had been teagued and while it was perfect for skeet and sporting, I struggled to shoot trap with it. the patterns just were not the same!

currently awaiting a browning 725 pro trap with the adjustable high rib, so i'll see how I get on with that!

Not really, you want to maximise your chances by having the most even pattern possible and not the densest, but at 25 yds its hard to judge.

Vince .yes 25 yrds is a waste of time for checking the pattern on a fixed choke trap gun imo and was NOT

Really the intention . Like i said in my third post i knew it would be tight .... Its a fixed choke trap gun . It was just curiosity .... A bit of fun . But also to check point of aim or should i say to give a rough idea. And for what its worth most DTL birds are taken at 30/32 yrds if your timing is on the ball .

Like brett says these are pure disaplin guns designed for a purpose 40-50-60-70 yrd edge on clays

Brett im too waiting for a pro trap to come into the shop to have a propper look . Look a great bit of kit imo .

Not wishing to enter into a pointless debate about chokes so last comment-yes the pattern would be good to powder an edge on clay at 40 yards - but first you need to hit it and the one pellet from a half choked gun will break the clay just the same whilst making it a darn sight easier to hit. Just my opinion mind.
