and then, apart from a few off road bikes, i fell in with the 4 stroke gang and never went back :good:

Awesome pics chris brings back memorys your T 500 is same style as my old one but mine was red with a gold line on it not the blue.

What front forks and wheel did you put in that?

Never had an X7 i was out of 250s when they came out, but did ride one a mate had, was very light as i remember it compared to the GT250A out previous.

One Suzuki twin i had too was a Suzuki T350 J It was an animal like the 350 version of the Hustler or earlier super six, The 350 j was gold and a 1971 on a j reg, was a heavy smoker for some reason but it could go well but went to help find a 1970 4 speed trident. in green happy days. I went into north africa with that trident with a mate on a old Norton atlas.

i crashed it into the back of a bus whilst showing off along the high street (we all had to learn  !!) and all i had to replace the bent bits with was the remains of a gt250 i had in the shed, dunno what the wheel was ( a lester maybe??) but i did fit the rear as well eventually

it seized up in a magnificent way a short time later on the a34 between abingdon and oxford, the rev counter stopped working which i guessed was just the cable letting go,

it turned out that the rev counter was actually driven by the oil pump.....which had sheared its drive.....hence no rev counter......it stopped very shortly after and alot quicker than it would have done using the brakes

still, didnt fall off so was happy and back then oversize pistons/rings were easy to find and the local bike shop did the rebore and crank rebuild - wasnt it so easy then!!! :good:

Get what you mean chris re the CCI system, they dont meeter very well, and at tick over on the small capacity engines like the TS50s LT50 kids quads etc, at idle they just dont get enough oil in my poinion, when my kids were tiny they had an LT50 well they still have it acctualy, . But this little thing used to get way to hot if ticking over for awile, a combination of no air passing over the motor and the lack of oil, i always made a point of making them switch it off if they left it, i did think about doing away with it like Some racers do, but decided against it as it saved me mixing it every fill up.

I think the early CCI systems like on the super six 350 j early titan 500s etc were a little enthusiastic on the oil pump at low revs, and smoked for vEngland because of this, where as on latter bikes i think they went the other way too much to clean up the exhausts for emitions perhaps.

I acctualy think the yamaha autolube systen is a little better than the suzuki CCI system same basic idea but better meetering designed into the pump i always felt.

Anybody interested in the old strokers? I dragged this one out after fitting a new battery and a fresh swig of petrol, it started sixth kick, to my surprise. Not original at all, but it still makes me grin anyway...lol.

Picture seems to be sideways for some reason?

I had one of them, and the 380 triple, and a 250

I'm still trying to find a Honda mtx 200 as a wreck or tired bike.

I had a Honda mt50 followed by a cagiva Mito back in 99 but then turned to a Honda xr250 , wr426 and a ktm 400 for enduros.

If anyone reading this knows of a mtx 200 please pm me

ahhh ******..............................

i couldnt sell these so i gave them away when we moved recently as id run out of space.......

the black one was a gen 200 but need a piston (couldnt find one anywhere - seems they fit some old lambrettas so the scooter boys scoop em all up !!) with 125 panels/tank,

i nicked a load of bits off it for the orange 200, mot'd it and......well, it didnt take me back to 1985 when they seemed to go like rocket ships !!

i was a bit disappointed with it so slung it into the back of the garage with the remains of the other one til they had to go

arrggghhhhhh

How can I live a mid life crisis without my teen dream machine.

Surely they must have Pistons somewhere ? But I have heard the lambreta buys rob them all.

My sons raced KTM SX 360, SX 380, Honda CR500s and I only had to replace one piston. That said, the smaller two strokes, which preceded them, needed pistons, barrel re-chromes and bearings for fun.

It's true that the bigger two strokes are harder to break, if you can thrash them hard enough to break them, you're shifting at a rate that's just as likely to break the rider as the engine...lol.

Apart from a FS1e I never had a bike but did race karts in the 70's and 80's. These machines had purpose built 100cc rotary valve two strokes and boy did they shift. They used to rev up to about 17,000 rpm and when they let go they did in a big way. I still have fond memories of taking them apart and tinkering with them. That and the smell of castrol R oil.
