wymberley
Hi guys, It was my first night out since Christmas as I had two perforated discs in my back that were a tad uncomfortable, no I'll be honest they were bloody painful and it meant I was laid up for a while. Tonight early evening I had a phone call from Rich a farmer who's farm I have been shooting for a few months, he said they were about to start lambing and could I walk around the farm to see if there were any fox's around. So I did the lower half of the farm, and managed to get a good dog at about 120yds but had left the phone in the truck and so didn't get a photo. I then drove around the farm and went up to Rich's end up the hill. I took the phone with me this time. and after doing the fields around his house and calling near the big wood to no avail I started dropping down the hill again. I got myself backed into a hedge and put the caller on, after about 10 minutes a set of eyes were showing lower down the hill. They gradually made there way into the field I was in, It was a big dog in super condition. I was hand squeaking by now and he was in no hurry to come near. He was working the ground and wouldn't come much nearer than 200yds, and where he was there was no shot on. I watched him for a good 15 minutes and then he worked around to a place where I could get a shot off, Farther than I would have liked, but it was now or never. So I sent one of my 50gr V-Max homeloads at him, we all know the sound of a good contact, and it was, straight in the bib. He was huge! and heavy as hell, so I thought oowee would be pleased to see this one, as you can see he had about nine inches of leg above a four rail fence . oowee
Ive been out 4 times this week and seen 2, 1st one through a gate spotted with thermal, but through my Archer saw B all due to the fog that was 70 yards. Then out Thursday night and one crept up behind me a quick change of position on the back of the truck, slipped and pulled the shot sounded good but missed. 1st one this year. Was out last night to see if the one I missed was going to show, same place same time but no sign of it. I don't talk about those. I was out last night too in the drizzle and saw nothing but did have a moment of excitement, Lit up eyes in a hedge and started hand squeaking , the eyes started coming across the field nicely but when I got behind the scope for the shot I was disappointed as it was Tiddles being curious we had one following us over a couple of fields the other night. racing snake
Out for a few hours tonight. Walked up to my favourite gatepost and sat and waited, just scanning the field in front and to the sides with the thermal. After an hour and a half of nothing doing I decided to walk back to try another spot; as I was walking back I got about 150 yards, had a scan in front, all the way round to where I'd just come from and there's charlie stood at the gate I'd just left. Straightforward shot off the primos but still had to put it through the bars.
WelshMike
Thats a collection and a half from the album Mike. Some good shooting by the looks, the bottom pic looks like a busy day!! Like the NV Green rifle (.243) belongs to Bumpy looks like a custom job I think. Had a walk round today on the pheasant and partridge. Off tonight to see whats about looks like a clear night and fairly dark. Have to keep going out to fill the diary waiting for my open ticket (not that it's a chore). FEO said average person goes out once every two weeks and they open the ticket after five years. I make that about 250 trips before I can ask again Cheers bud Come on Mike , that's the same pic you use every time, About time you had some photography lessons First word rhymes with duck and the second with toff.........look like a slap for you next time I see you...cheeky devil Out for a few hours tonight. Just been out and bagged a partridge and pheasant. More bait for the garden.

These boys with all the money to afford thermal spotters and top of the range NV scopes.....just the jealousy coming out Nice to see that you are off to tempt in some more nice tame foxes into your garden to shoot with the girly rifle...shocking.... racing snake
Thanks Mike, oowee. "Posh shooter", I like the sound of that! Reality is though I had to sell two children and one of the wife's kidneys to furnish myself with the Drone and the thermal. Honestly, the sacrifices I've had to make! Do you have any kids left to sell if you want any more kit? Is the Drone Pro the 10x? Lovely looking bits of kit. I dont have any kids to sell so will have to wait until I have a lottery win ...or I decide to move the N750A to the .17 hmr and have a Drone Pro on the .243....bad thoughts

tonker
I was at a loose end tonight, so thought I'd have an hour sitting with the Sheep on the same farm that I shot the big dog last Weds. Blooming cold it was for half an hour, and as I was shivering I thought I'd give it best and go home, as luck would have it, a bit of cloud came over and the wind dropped so went up the hill a bit to another field with half a dozen ewes and lambs. I put the caller on for ten minutes and a set of eyes appeared at the top gate. I muted the caller for a minute. Then when I put it on again she didn't hesitate and came bombing in, A quick shout to stop her at about 60 yds and pulled the trigger. Sorry for the shocking picture, but if you could see my brick of a phone, and only having a tiny torch with me it's a wonder we can see anything

oowee
Worth staying out in the cold Tonker, nice one. We had a few rabbits before fog stopped play came home and did not bother with the NV for the foxes. Out again Wed night I think its a shotgun job. No offence Mike i have to learn to shoot it properly before I get onto the real deal.
Dougy
With visibility down to less than 100yds because of the fog I didn't bother. That's about a dozen night this year that's been ruined by the fog. Well done on managing to get out and see a few.

No offence Mike i have to learn to shoot it properly before I get onto the real deal. Much easier with a .243 and BT rounds rather then a .17hmr. Shot placement needs to be perfect with the .17 whereas there is a little more margin for error with a bigger round...thats why I like it as I am such a bad shot

I went round 2 farms and saw nothing. Spotted 1 on my way home on a piece of ground I shoot but by the time I parked, got my rifle and kit out and had a 2 minute walk back to where I spotted the fox it was gone...called for a bit but nothing so off for my much needed beauty sleep. Had a night off last night but back out tonight for a few hours. First up to a permission where the landowner had heard a vixen the night before. Spent a good couple of hours walking the perm, just scanning with the thermal, not running the caller, but nothing doing! Called in at another permission further down the road, walked right up to the top and sat down and ran the caller for a while. No interest in the vixen call but just as I was about to move off I thought I'd just run the rabbit call for a few minutes. 30 seconds after runing it and a fox comes trotting into the field below and then sits tight. Close enough for the Tikka though and down she went at 150 yards. Thought I'd quickly try the bottom of the permission (time was getting on), so bolted down to a productive spot and ran the vixen call for a few minutes. Vixen number two came bounding in. Tried to stop her but she was only 50 yards away when I got her attention with a 55 grain Vmax. 2 vixens for the night.
