eifpaz
Hi All I'm looking to purchase 6 skeet vests (with more to follow) for my local Wing of Air Cadets. We have recently taken up clay shooting, had staff trained and found a suitable venue and now want to roll in out to the cadets. I'm having difficulty sourcing the skeet vests (for the staff in various sizes up-to 54" chest. Can anyone suggest a supplier who carries suitable stock of vest up-to £60 each (As the staff are paying for them themselves)? Thanks Eifion

fortune
Where are you going to do this shooting? We came up to Aberystwyth a couple of years ago (How the time fly's bye so quickly) for Son in laws stag do to do the strata run, go round some of the resovoirs and general off roading. We stopped off in Cwmbran to load up with lead on route and went out to the Mid Wales ground after dovey didn't want to know us. We had a smashing time there and had about five hundred clays between us. We would have stayed longer but by the time that we got there it Was coming to the end of the day. The people there were so nice and accommodating. If we were closer or we could tow them down here we would be in there every week. I think the round trip was near to 700 miles! I hope that the ground is still the same. I managed to get a round of clays in out in Crete near Chania and the guys there were just as helpful and friendly. I have setup a CPSA affiliated site on my smallholding, just south of Aberystwyth (Llanrhystud). I set it up for the Air Cadets mainly to have taster days with the hope of entering a team into next years inter cadet shoot. We have now decided to open it up to any Youth, Military, Blue light groups and have booking from them already. We don't have any special layouts as such, but everyone who has been so far have loved it and it's introduced new people to this great sport. We are running it on a non-profit basis, to try and keep the costs as low as possible. Hence why the staff have to buy their own vests!!! Westley
I may be stating the obvious here, but have you tried some of the cartridge manufacturers ? Many years ago (and times are now harder !) Express cartridges provided 6 skeet vests for the guys that helped me with clay shooting for Scouts and Armed Forces Cadets, free of charge.. We just had their name put onto the front, above the breast pocket. The back of the vest had the Express logo on it. It may just be worth a phone call, asking if they could supply you at trade price and you would of course, buy only their cartridges. GMK, BWM and Caesar Guerini also have skeet vests bearing their logo and may consider trade prices. The local gunshop is also worth a call too. You are doing a real good job there giving the cadets help and support. You never know one could be a champion shot in a few years time. Junkyard Dog
Have a look at orizo.it, they are not bad for the money, the Italian team used them for years until the deal with Beretta about 4 years ago. They are 29 Euro's each.......
eifpaz
Thank you all for your help on this matter. I have emailed a few cartridge manufactures and had a look at the various sites suggested. I really like the Italian vests and postage is reasonable too. Thanks Fortune, I've been with the Air Cadets for 6 years as staff (and 6 years as a cadet many moons ago). The traps and guns were bought about 7 years ago, no-one used them as the red tape was so thick to cut through (rightly so when safety is involved) but some of it was a little silly to say the least. Anyway we are there now and the cadets love it.

Anyway we are there now and the cadets love it. I was in the cadets when I was at school and I remember the selfless efforts of the civilian volunteers who gave their time and help to us. One taught us small bore target shooting and this has stayed with me to this day branching out into other types of shooting and reloading. He passed away some years ago but when I pass his stone in the graveyard I nod and remember him. PS I had my own issue 303 which was kept in the squadron armoury which wasn't all that secure and didn't have an alarm of any sort and was a bit isolated. There was always thousands of rounds in stock just stacked up in the armoury. Sometimes a visiting officer would turn up and his car would be loaded to the roof with 303 and 22rf ammo. The car Was just parked up without any sort of security and eventually he would ask if we wanted any. There didn't seem to be any sort of paperwork hand over or anything. We were ordered to go to the car and help with the humping of the lead to the armoury. We used to do a lot of shooting on ranges. Different times. Thanks for the info Andy. I lived in Italy for 5 years but bought my clothes from C&A and H&M so never had a sizing problem. Was given a Guerini skeet vest by Anglo Italian today so don't need another one now 🤑

eifpaz
I thought that i'd update you all on my search for vest and my cadets shooting. Yesterday, we held the first clay shoot. We had 15 cadets, ranging from 14 to 19, some adult staff and also the Chairman of the local Royal British Legion. What a great day. Seeing the joy on the young cadets faces when they smashed a few clays was priceless. The Royal British Legion have booked a members shoot for next month and the next batch of cadets are being organised in readiness for the next cadet shoot. Invitation letters are being prepared for the local blue light service and other youth groups. We all learned a few lessons, we need to rotate the shooters a bit quicker, we need more eye protection and more peaked caps (as this slowed the shooters rotating the stands, they had to swap eye protection and hats). The main lesson, don't eat so much at the BBQ lunch (too stuffed to move afterwards) With regards to the vest, our hunt continues. I have emailed numerous suppliers (very little response, just one supplier replying to say they can supply), I have also emailed numerous cartridge manufacturers ( only 2 replies, 1 are in the process of changing designs and will email me later and the other are busy in a show). A bit disappointing really, it's not as if I was trying to blag them for nothing, it cheeses me off when companies & suppliers can't even be bothered to email you back. On another note, I had a problem with the new Larporte (which were bought brand new in 2010 and stored ever since) i emailed laporte-cpc and received a response virtually before I sent the email after a few questions the problem was sorted, great service, I might have to ask them about vests Anyway, off to clean the shotguns now. Thanks all
shoot and be safe
Well done on your venture, I was a member of the air cadets back in the 90's and enjoyed every minute of it. I wish we had the chance to do clay shooting back then, the closest we came was working the manual traps for local charity shoots. Although my cheek did get us a couple of shots at the end of the day Keep up the good work, the youngsters will remember what you did for them in later life
