foosa Posted January 6, 2017 Report Share Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) First outing for me last Tuesday night and it wasn't a good start with a clean miss on a fox called in to 80 yards, still not sure what happened there! Anyway, after a lot of cursing and blaming everything else apart from me I spotted a vixen curled up fast asleep at the bottom of a big oak, a stealthy stalk into about 100 yards and rifle on the bipod I flicked the lamp on but couldn't see her! A quick look through the thermal and there she was plain as day so I marked the area well and had another look through the scope and lamp to find a fox well blended in to the surrounding fauna, reticule settled on the head and no mistake this time, she didn't even wake to look up at the lamp! On the way down to pick her up another quick scan with the thermal revealed a big dog fox off to my left making his way up the field, rifle up on sticks and on with the lamp to see him broadside looking straight at me and that was the second fox in the bag within 2 minutes. It was 4 hours before the next one presented itself and was dispatched with out drama. So after a shakey start 2017 is off the mark for me with 3. Photo is of the first two. Total 5.
