Or what else should I be looking at the other fellas I shoot with all have 223 for foxes. Budget up to £1000 all in.
JRDS
Would go for a 243 with the light bullets. Will double as a Deer rifle with the heavier stuff if you get the chance and if you don't a fantastic Foxing calibre in its own right. I know a couple of guys who are into foxing and this is their chosen calibre. It certainly delivers one hell of a punch.
Donegalcharlie
Must look into the 243 now thanks men. Any other suggestions welcome!

tonker
.222 is what I use for charlie, 50gr v-max is what you'll use (probably) I load my own, very forgiving calibre to load. Once you're used to the rifle good to 200. If you go down the .243 route, again I load the 58gr v-max and can tack drive with my load. And its like the proverbial off of the shiny shovel. Don't forget to look at the .204 though, but as said .243 will do it all, and it's no slouch.
millrace
you wont get 243 here unless you do dsc coarse.....no ifs no buts.....lol you have loads of choice firstly look at where your shooting and the distance and get what suits,,,if all your foxing is at 100/120 yds you dont need huge callibre that cost a fortune every time you pull the trigger,,,,, .22 hornet,222,223 one of the hot .17,,, 204 ruger,,,22.50 20tac there are loads of options get what suits and is affordable and more so here something your gun dealer has ammo for all the time....... Donegalcharlie
243 is clean out the window if it involves a Dsc then.! Price of HMR is up every where now I bought 1000 out of Omagh at £11 quid a box the new stock he ordered in is selling at £17.50 a box brave jump. But that's the joys of shooting.. Thanks for the info so far lads! Gives me a bit of something to go on. Edited February 28, 2017 by Donegalcharlie
69chris
i use 150g .308 for just about everything !!! however, given the above regards dsc for a .243, id prob just go .223 as ammo is cheap and easy to find

Donegalcharlie
Do you have a Cz your self?
Dunkield
Yes an old 527 lux, it has been mucked about with, new stock, chopped and recrowned etc but it is still my favourite 'go to' rifle. They are a bit agricultural, but very accurate.
Donegalcharlie
I Have a Cz in .17 and I couldn't fault it so far but I haven't had it all that long. But easily stripped an cleaned

Donegalcharlie
+1 Just not headed down the 243 route yet Steve cheers anyway 👍🏻
steve_b_wales
+1 No problem. It's just the best of both worlds. I used to use a .223 with good success rates, then moved to a 22-250 which was awesome. I sold that and purchased a .204 Ruger which is an excellent Fox/Vermin calibre. Donegalcharlie
What's the deal on the 22-250 and the 204 would you have either over a 223?
steve_b_wales
What's the deal on the 22-250 and the 204 would you have either over a 223? 22-250 is a faster cartridge, and gives a hell of a punch, but I'm not knocking the .223. The .204 is a very fast, flat shooting calibre and is perfect for fox and small quarry. I use mine for Fox and long distance (200+yards) ground feeding Corvids. Easy to reload too.
