jam1e
Hi folks. As above, i'd like to know the quickest and cleanest way of dispatching mainly pigeons, but also carrion birds by hand. I've seen some people just grab the head and spin the bird around a few times. Is this the best/quickest way of doing this responsibly? And would it be ok to do the same with carrion? I usually take my .22 rimmy with subs, or fac air rifle for winged birds, as i'm partially disabled, and am not able to run across fields to do it by hand. Some opinions and ideas would be appreciated. Thanks J.
JDog
If you are partially disabled and are unable to chase after birds if you do not have a dog then you will have to shoot them as you do. If you do get to pick a wounded bird hold it by the head and spin it's body round. This is not the 'few times' that you refer to but once or less until the neck breaks. It takes a bit of practice. Novices invariably spin them round too many times resulting in the head falling off. I had such a person out with me last week and when I asked him to prop the bird up as a decoy using one of my sticks through it's throat he confessed sheepishly that the head had fallen off. jam1e
Thanks for the replies and pm's folks. I'll carry on with my usual practice then, with the rim-fire or air rifle. Unless i get one close in, then i'll be doing the spin the body job. Cheers. Jamie
