davids3511
I'm looking to upgrade from my Franchi Alcione to a Miroku. My son has a MK38 and its a great gun, fits him to perfection. I've seen a MK70 for £795 and the shop is offering 400-450 for my franchi but its got a trap foreend. The shop said its not a trap stock and that some people like to swap them about (is it not moke likely they broke it and replaced it with what they could find?). They also said it'll make no difference to its residual value. Will I notice much difference and will I be screwed when I come to sell? I am a big chunky guy so maybe the fatter foreend will suit me better?
Scully
I much prefer trap fore-ends even on Sporters, and often wish the choice was available off the shelf. I used to take the trap fore-end off my 8500 trap and put it on my other 101 Sporters for a days shooting. It certainly wouldn't put me off, but that's just me. As to affecting resale, I really couldn't say. You may be able to find a Sporting fore-end somewhere if it's not to your liking.
Danger-Mouse
By trap fore-end, do you mean a beavertail? Had one on my first gun and I really liked it. Like Scully I'd happily have one on my MK38 sporter given the option.
davids3511
Hi Yes, it's fatter with no 'Tulip'. As an aside, how does this match up to an MK38 for clays? Its the same length barrells but after that I don't know much about an MK70.
Gordon R
The trap forend seems more sought after than the sporter or game. It would be easy enough to get it swapped with someone who sought a trap forend. Personally, I would keep it. I don't believe it would affect resale value. matone
Mk 70 will be fine for sporting clays.Better bore size for fibre cartridges too !
kennett
Love my mk70 and shoot very well with it.
davids3511
It is a decdent stepup from an Alcione one or should I keep saving? I cant hit a cow proverbial with my sons mk38 but it is setup very specifically for him. Edited April 14, 2017 by davids3511

davids3511
Dating the serial number makes it a 98 gun. Is £795 about right assuming its in good tight order?
welshwarrior
It's all personal choice with forend shapes it would bother me at all beaver tails forends don't look as pretty but fill my big hands well shoot it and see easy to swap out if you prefer a different shape. Mk70 will be a great clay gun.
davids3511
Changed my mind at the last moment and went for this instead - https://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/355229-browning-ultra-xs-12-gauge/ When I went to pick up the gun the seller had a 3800 with a trap forend that he let me have a swing of and I can see what you all mean. It fills my big hands very well, the groves in the sides are perfect for my fingers and I really liked the feel of a trap forend. Thanks for all the input even if I didn't go for it in the end. davids3511
If it fits you got a real bargain and will not be disappointed. It fits (I think) but it hurts, I'm not a fan of that black hard plastic butt plate. I'm thinking of upgrading to a kickeeze. I've spent most of the day raising bumps and tiny scratches and i'm delighted with the gun. Had 100 with it today at Mickley Hall and while I'm not magically a problem for George Digweed to be concerned about, I do feel its a hefty gun and feels great to shoot. I'm at my usual Sunday morning shoot tomorrow, they'll have an opinion on gunfit.

Bloody southern softies, you should try a 4 bore with an iron plate shirt off on a February morning on the foreshore, frost twinkling off the barrels in the dawn light........ That or get a pad fitted and keep it pulled into your shoulder
