Wilksy II
I'd seen good numbers of pigeons on the poor rape on Wednesday tea time, all the barley drilling is through by a couple of inches and no peas or beans. I turned up at the field today at 1pm to find nowt! 20 odd on a horse paddock and one or two flitting about, stood and watched for a bit and against all the advice of Jdog and agaman I set up were I had seen them Wednesday. The wind was nearly head on so not ideal but I put out a rotary to my right, flapper and a bouncer to my left and 20 silosock covered shells scattered out in front, I'd decided to give my old Aya yeoman an airing today so I settled in my hide for 2pm and waited. Birds came nicely but sporadic, decoying well like rockets in the strong westerly then at about 4pm they started to come really well, even had two left and rights in a row! Shot till 6:30pm every time I thought about packing up pigeons appeared, I should have shot a lot more as I missed some daft ones but I finished with 43 picked lost two in the long rape, I had a feeling I'd gone better than my previous 29 but I didn't realise by that many! Very chuffed but tired pigeon shooter!

aga man
You shouldn't listen to me and JDog, we don't know what we are talking about! That's a great result wilksy, those birds must have been good in that wind, and what a joy to shoot them with the old sxs. Excellent. getthegat
Sounds like a great few hours and with a strong wind making challenging shots, kills are all that more satisfying. Great report, Envious. as my morning yesterday produced only 10 crows and a broken semi auto to put in the truck.

JDog
Haha! Thanks Only thing is I'll have to carry more cartridges now! Unkind I know but based on last weekends performance you must have carried at least a slab to shoot that many. However credit where credit is due that was a decent bag on rape at this time of year. pigeon controller
He who Dares , Wilksy, I've seen birds on clover at a local school feeding at 20.30. You had a gut feeling that they would feed and they did. Well done great result.

Harsh but fair Jdog, harsh but fair! That said my shooting benefited greatly from not having a bloke 30yrds to my left shouting at me! However credit where credit is due that was a decent bag on rape at this time of year.

It was more of a vague hope but I like your description better, I did have birds still trying to commit whilst I was packing up so I should of stayed. Maybe got the half a ton!
