Exudate
I met a guy at a clay ground after 25 miles in a foot of snow and he put 100 shots through my gun and he said he wanted a 30" version of the same gun which was advertised as a 28"!!! Yes, you always run the risk of meeting Mr *********, but I'd rather it be this than get my gun stolen.
gustav
I believe that I am right in saying that it is an offence to have an assembled shotgun in any public place, even in your car. Unless it is in a cover of some sort so that it cannot be fired. Something to bear in mind if you are thinking about car parks etc.

I would suggest you read the Firearms Act before making incorrect assumptions.

Check the wording of the Act for clarification.
mossy835
if the gun is covered and in the boot, or you can put your hand on the gun then you are with in the law.
Exudate
As far as I'm aware it's not actually an offence to have an un-covered shotgun in a public place. Yo just have to have a good, credible reason to have it. I agree that a Supermarket car-par or other such public place isn't good for shooting PR, however. If you're seen I'd expect a visit from SO19!

Lord O War
I never realised motorway services were such a hot bed of gun dealing. I am going to have to pay more attention when I visit them! If they find out this is happening on Mumsnet the will go bonkers. lol
Davyo
i recently put a gun up for sale on gun trader, a chap said he would buy it if we could meet half way. well as luck would have it i was going to be near the half way point this Saturday so i said i would , now i'm a bit apprehensive about the whole thing! if we meet in a secluded area he could have a proper look at the gun but i run the risk of being robbed ( compleat stranger off the internet ) meet in a place with people and run the risk of armed police and a night in a cell. anyone ever done this before? any advise ? im pretty keen to get rid of the gun as i need the money. Meet at an RFD, I've done this before,if they are dodgy it will put them off.
sportsbob
Meet at an RFD, I've done this before,if they are dodgy it will put them off. Oh I can just imagine that one, you phone the RFD and say "hello I would like to use your place of business to meet a stranger and sell my gun to him in the comfort and security you provide" I reckon this would be followed by the RFD either swearing, laughing or silence because he has put the phone down. Davyo
Oh I can just imagine that one, you phone the RFD and say "hello I would like to use your place of business to meet a stranger and sell my gun to him in the comfort and security you provide" I reckon this would be followed by the RFD either swearing, laughing or silence because he has put the phone down.Sorry didn't mean for free, phone and arrange a suitable RFD midway. However if your happy meeting a stranger you've never met and havnt seen proof he has a licence then crack on.Its called being responsible certificate holder,a condition we all agreed to when we got granted. Plus think about it,there has been a spate of terrorist attacks around the world including the recent one in London. The country is on alert and the general public have been told (which we were) to report any suspicious activity. So your in a Motorway swapping Gun/cash /paperwork,all legit. However old couple spot this from other side of car park and phone plod.Your on a Motorway remember a quick rout to major town or city and an old biddy phone's it in to the police.15minutes later find yourself staring down the barrel of a armed response officer.Meeting at an RED doesnt5 seem so stupid all of a sudden.Better still use the RFD and post.
