Walker570
A 13 yr old boy shot by a home made air gun by a friend he was with, who swung the gun around and at some point had it close to the neck of his pal and the gun went off of it's own accord. Accident NO Careless??? YES Now all and sundry crying out for tighter licensing controls to prevent similar 'accidents'. Makes not a jot of difference if you have a bit of paper with your air rifle, if it is home made and your carelessly swinging it around. Due to someone's stupidity and carelessness, the safe sensible users of air rifles are going to get screwed. LIKE!! the knife laws prevented the Westminster tragedy. arjimlad
Multiple laws broken in that incident, so what do they suggest... yes. let's make some more laws !! How about training in safe gun handling ? Oh no, we have to pretend that they will never see anything like a nasty gun.
Newbie to this
Yep, careless/misuse of a firearm, NOT an accident, but a very preventable tragedy.

'Accidental' is kind of saying it couldn't be avoided, yet it could have. 'Careless' is a whole new meaning.... A similar story with something the Police changed some years back. 'Road Accident' to 'Road Collision'.

If you have already read it why do you need a link. Good old google will give you all the information you require and more. Simple...just type in "13yr old boy killed with air rifle" and you get everything the press/media have written. A single link only gives you one perspective. A nine shot air rifle isn't homemade is it. I'm well up for air rifles being S1. The amount of expensive rifles I've slapped around trees breaking them in half from theiving, poaching scummers who'd prefer that than the police being called.... I did- and I could not find anything relating to the gun holder moving it close to his friends neck....... 🤔
big bad lindz
Accidents don't happen they are caused so rout out the cause. making new licence laws will not make an air gun safer (or any gun for that matter) in the hands of an incompetent person or child as in this case. Gordon R
The weapon, which was not made by a commercial manufacturer, was a .22 air rifle fashioned with a telescopic sight and silencer. It could be loaded with up to nine pellets without them being visible, had no safety catch and could discharge without the trigger being pulled. I am not well up on firearms manufacture, but can anyone say if it is legal to produce such a rifle. The parents call for tighter gun laws is well wide of the mark. There seems to be no mention of who actually made the rifle. Perhaps their attention should be directed there.
