Receiver discolouration

Hi,
I noticed some dark patches on the receiver of my MK38, which I seem unable to make disappear. Really not sure what the cause is , originally I thought it was just general grime from use. Thanks in advance ( I hope the picture will upload)

Thanks everyone, I have tried the white spirit as it was the easiest option which didn't quite work. I assume ( probably wrongly) that lighter fuel / petrol are similar in their actions to the WS (maybe of varying strengths ). So I think I'll give the autosol a shot- thanks again

Solvol (Autosol) is a very mild abrasive. I've used it to clean gold rings and it doesn't leave any scratch marks.

if areas are looking dull it can be the factory lacker has worn away making the metal look dull a gunsmith will strip and re polish and re seal did my browning about ten years back John Wiseman at Cannock sorted it out for me

That makes sense but woulld be deeply disappointing as the gun is near enough virginal, I have had from pretty much new ,only really been using regularly over the last 4 months .

if you want to have a bash at it degrease with panel wipe thoroughly and give it a cote or two of a good auto aerosol lacker will stop it getting any worse, or you can strip it down give it a polish on a buffing wheel degrease and lacker will be as good as new
