Weavers
Do I spend £1000 on a gun or £500. I have been advised by some to go for a Browning or Beretta for £1000 and by others to spend £500 and see how I get on with the sport first. I have seen some nice Franchi, Lanber and Webley & Scott guns for the lower budget but not sure if they are any good or not. Advice would be appreciated. WelshAndy
Get yourself down to a local clay ground and try a few different brands out. If you shoot well with one buy that one. I've been shooting my rizzini for 20 years - bought and sold dozens in that time and always go back to the rizzini. It cost me £350.... nic
the price or brand of the gun matters not a jot. the one that fits best for you is the best one to buy. as welsh andy said, get to a clay ground or a shop with somewhere that you can try the guns don't know where you are, but Wales shooting school allow you to try second hand guns, there are shops all over that have the same sort of facilities the cost is immaterial, unless you are really good, spending a fortune won't make that much difference to your shooting Edited July 31, 2017 by nic
Gordon R
You could get a very nice Beretta, Browning or Miroku (same gun as Browning) for well less than your budget and they will hold their value better than those others you mention. Weavers
I'm in Gwent in South Wales. Does anyone know where I can go to a gun shop and try out second hand guns.

viking
now im not being funny, but i love it when people say, go to your local clay ground and try as many guns out as you can, iv never been to 1 clay ground where they have guns for you to use or try, but i do only go to little shoots, or should i say not big ones with gun shops onsite rather than messing about just get a decent gun to start with, doesnt have to cost the earth, (can you all see where this is going ) as said, browning beretta MIROKU are your big 3, and them in the know, know the older guns were made better. if only there were something for sale on here that would suit you, thats priced well and is an absolute top class gun :hmm:

What's the big difference between the two? Is the 3800 a sporterised one?

Is the 3800 a sporterised one? Well the 7000 is a trap gun with a raised rib. Fairly heavy as trap guns normally are. Never really noticed it till I used the 3800. But I shoot well with it. And for me Iv had it a long time. As for the 3800 I believe they all started out life as trap guns. But in the 80's there wasn't such a thing as a sporter. So trap shooters started sporterising there trap guns to suit English sporting. Opening the chokes up and lowering the comb to make them shoot a bit flatter. So to me the only difference is one has a hi rib and is a trap gun. The other is probably a sporterised trap gun that's lighter than my 7000. But lovely guns to shoot and own.
