JohnfromUK
York is nice, but if taking the car, make sure you have parking. Lots of nice places to eat in walking distance. I also like the north east as a region to visit. Edinburgh is nice.

GingerCat
Amsterdam is a great city. 50 mins max by air and cheap to get too.
Bumble
Amsterdam is a great city. 50 mins max by air and cheap to get too. Been there many times, including for work. Went there once with my ex about 10 years ago. Highlights included fishing her out the canal after the dozy cow ate a bit too much 'special cake' and getting punched by her for apparently eyeing up one of the ladies in the windows (I was, but that's not the point)
AVB
Amsterdam is a great city. 50 mins max by air and cheap to get too. I've worked in Amsterdam and imo it is one of the most boring cities in Europe. There are a few canals, a couple of museums, lots of sex shops and 'coffee' shops. Apart from that nothing. Lord Geordie
I've worked in Amsterdam and imo it is one of the most boring cities in Europe. There are a few canals, a couple of museums, lots of sex shops and 'coffee' shops. Apart from that nothing. Been twice! Going back soon! It's got stunning architecture, a great deal of history, good markets, a myriad of food styles, good cheeses and a very laid back atmosphere! I would rather Amsterdam than Ibiza
Ollieollie
I couldn't return to Amsterdam, the PTSD would kick in :-)
