I thought the Rivers west eider was a good jacket? my next jacket will be a columbia waterfowl parka but it will be an import job i need to research and get it sent by friends here.

I think the Browning dirty bird four way parka is good in what you can buy easy here. Aqatex works well and hard wearing the sportschief range was good back in the day, some on ebay at the moment new not sure what the newer ones are like on quality.

There are some very good Wildfowling jackets but depends on your budget. Some are silly expensive. I have a Herters wading jacket from Cabelas and it does all I want in the cold or wet. They did have s Four in one bush something or other name but it was a bit much to pay if it didn't fit ordering from the states. Also use a Ridgeline Smock that's good. Along with some other coats and stuff.

Ex army stuff can be great but I struggle to get my sizes, if xxl is too large then forces surplus will be a good one. Camo gortex and rubber ponchos are good, take your pick of any forces surplus from Europe or USA

Have you thought about taking a look at the Deerhunter range.

The Deerhunter Muflon jacket comes in two lengths, long and short and a lightweight and heavyweight style. The heavyweight insulated jacket is incredibly warm.

They`re extremely well put together in Denmark. rather than in China where most of the American stuff comes from.

Rivers West, or Rivers of Sweat were, in my opinion, an interesting phenomena in the clothing industry. They spent millions on their advertising and not a lot on their product development. The zips almost always broke and were never waterproof. Cleverly, the jacket was described as "waterproof", which it was. Unfortunately, it was built around a completely non breathable membrane, effectively a sheet of plastic, which kept all the rain out, but all the perspiration vapour locked inside the jacket.

I know of at least six fowlers who were sucked in by the advertising and bought a Rivers West jacket. Most of them didn't make it to the end of their first season and none are now in use.

I have a Deerhunter jacket that`s ten years old and still going strong. As you may have gathered, I`m not a fan of Rivers West.

Check out marpat goretex on the bay , a few bits on the bay in the UK at the moment , it's made in America and worn by us marines, good enough for Afghanistan, good enough for the UK shores!

Alot of UK troops equired the gear in joint operations , best gear I've got is wildthings tactical again usa made for special ops , this also comes up on the bay.

I have had a deer hunter mouflon for a couple of years now,,, great on the marsh and no sign of it leaking yet!!!!!!... I also use Keela belay special forces smock which is absolutly fantastic for the extreme weather as they are insulated, breathable and very watertight, got two of these so I can alternate them also got the jacket which isn't insulated so its good for mild days or long walks..... cant recommend them enough ... there also camouflaged which doesn't turn dark when wet.... cheaper and better than some of the so called "fowling jackets" which only last a season

had the Keela SF jacket on while i was out the other day walking the dogs and got caught in what could only be described as a monsoon..... even the Chesapeake dog was looking for cover !! I just sat turned my back to the rain rolled a fag and waited until it eased off.... not one drop got through and I was as dry as a bone
