fatchap
I've seen on various you tube videos, the use of a square metal block with holes in it, usually used on the pedestal drill. Does anyone know what they are called? as I would like to purchase one.

Stonepark
Is it not simply a drill block?

No tried that, Lots of results but not what I'm looking for. They kind of look like this but more square in shape and more holes. Walker570
Have no idea, but it may help if we knew why you wanted one. Like o.p.p., I also tend to use a block of wood and have a few different ones with angles cut in them for drilling pipes etc.
Mice!
looking at your pictures i would say there for location dowels and bolting work down, as well as being parallels at the same time, you quite often get an entire false machine bed made out of aluminium on milling machines done like that so you can bolt work down or use pull backs so there aren't clamps in the way. Pigeon Shredder.
The blocks you have shown are for placement into a machine vice usually in pairs, a clamp, bolt set up is then used to hold down the item to be machined, this normally being an item that is not flat, i'e round, or oval or of differing height over its length that needs supporting before machining. The threaded hole takes the bolt, the clear hole is for clearance of the bolt, allowing stacking of the blocks higher prior to bolting down your item. Always known as machinist blocks. Hope that helps.
