rec-baller
I've just bought a cracking little AS S410 thumbstock, I want too stip if down too give it a service and a good clean BUT the grub screw in the silencer has been rounded off so I can' get an Allen key to grab , all its doing is spinning, I've even tried a small screwdriver in it but even that won' work, Any body any ideas how to get the grub screw out hopefully without drilling it out Shaun
Ultrastu
Put a thin elastic band on the end of the alan key and push into the screw hole . The rubber will grip and hold .
fatchap
Is it proud enough from the silencer body to cut a slot with a junior hacksaw and then you may get a bite with a small flat screwdriver? Dont use a screw extractor as they generrally snap leaving hardened steel behind making the last resort of drilling it out almost impossible. welsh1
Rubber band as said, or get another grub screw ,put a bit of araldite in the top of the rounded grub screw , place the other in the araldite, wait for it to cure, screw out. Saltings
when allen keys have failed I have used a torx bit about similar size rotate in your fingers until it locates / indexes and tap in slowly with a hammer until fully seated and keep pressure on to keep it in and crack it should move if in doubt apply some heat to the area in case thread lock has been used should work
rec-baller
I'll try the rubber band , the problem is the grub screw is recessed so I can' get s dremmel cutting disk into it to cut a straight line and get a screwdriver on it ! spandit
Screw extractors aren't great on siezed threads. As has been mentioned you often end up with a hardened steel bit to try and remove as well. Give it a good soaking in penetrating oil* before trying anything. You can grind through it with a carbide bit in a Dremel and then hopefully re-tap the hole once you have the bits out. * not WD40, it's not penetrating oil
old man
Maybe try penetrating oil then a small tap on the top of the grub screw? The force of the tap relating to the size of the stuck screw. You may be lucky? Thinking on, it may have been thread locked in? Try heat from the tip of a fine soldering iron? Salopian
Got no penetrating oil??? Use Vinegar it does really work , leave it to soak for a while . Tap in a correct size (tight fit Torqx) and it should move it .
