Dangerous Brian
HI All I have just bought a little BSA Scorpion 2nd hand and was wondering where to lubricate (just the bolt and fill probe or is there more?) and also what to use. A quick look at the BSA website told me they don't recommend silicone based lubricants for their PCPs but on the next paragraph recommend using Molykote 111, which a silicone oil based material. What should I be looking to get? Cheers Brian
bruno22rf
Pop it into your local friendly gun dealer and ask them to put a tiny smear of grease on the bolt once a year - in 7+ years of owning my PCP I think it's been lubed once - as for the probe I have never done anything apart from a wipe with a clean cloth and my probe is used on 2 guns. Walker570
Slightly off subject but close ...I as most of you know shoot an S200 .22. The rubber ring in the magazines were getting chewed up and I asked at my local airgun shop. You need some lubrication, just a small amount. It ios the pellet doing the damage. I there took a cotton wool stick and smeared it with vaseline and lightly coated each hole where the rubber protruded. The pellets certainly load much smoother. I have some new rings to pick up so will treat them before I put them in and will see if this stops the damage. Am I doing right here ? Is vaseline OK or do I need to use a different lubricant? bruno22rf
By the fact that SM50 says to shake well before use, my money is on 50% Silicone Oil + 50% Molybdynum Grease?

Correct. SM 50 is a molybdenized silicone oil. A quick google search will confirm that. Or read the bottle?

Sorry Stu but it is molydenized silicone oil. I would just use molybdenum grease, where needed and 3 in 1 for everything else.
Dangerous Brian
Thanks for your input everyone. At least I know what to look out for now. PS I thought a title like that might get a response

In short supply around here so e mailed Air Arms and their tech boys said that a light smear of gun oil would be adequate. Did pick up a tub of LT2 Gun Grease this morning...moly disulphide, so will try a light smear of that
bruno22rf
As for Vaseline - introduce it into the high pressure area of a PCP breach and you are likely to blow your face off .
Walker570
Thanks bruno. Was just a very light smear on the rubber but now having spoken with the Tech guys at AA, will be using normal gun oil on a cotton bud about every 50 shots. It is easier to dampen a cotton bud and smear the rubber without putting too much on. Certainly smooths out the insertion of pellets in my rifle. Mice!
are you saying if you lube it, it goes in easier? So so many jokes ??
Mr.C
I put a couple of quick sprays of gun oil in the tin of pellets and not needed to oil the barrel O ring
