squirrel shooter
Hi looking at treating myself to a goretex jacket and trouser outfit, this will be only used for best so will be used for Deer stalking and driven pheasant shooting. My question is what brand of clothing would you go for? I originally thought Harkila Pro Hunter X but in the past I've had bad experience with Harkila Forester wellingtons and this has now put me off the brand. Has anyone got any experience of the Barbour or Musto goretx shooting outfits? Thanks!
archi
Have had Barbour in the past with no issues. what about schoffel one of the most popular brands and is now by coat of choice for game shooting. i don’t think you will go wrong with any of the main players just pick the one that fits and feels the best. I thought harkila felt too heavy and stiff as a like a lightweight coat to shoot in. i don’t tend to wear over trousers unless absolutely hammering down as water proof lined plus 4s which stop the rain from going into the wellies
Dave at kelton
I have a Barbour goretex coat and it has stood the test of time, over ten years. John Norris have some great offers on at present
Scully
Mate has the full Harkila rig, including hat. He likes it very much but he doesn’t do any crawling around in the heather. There is much better ( harder wearing ) gear than goretex out there designed for crawling around glassing deer.
welshwarrior
Harkila clothing is good I’d not use their boots though. Musto very waterproof and well shaped. Barbour found some good some poor none great. Shoffel good trousers heavier coats are great. Blaser good but not everyone’s taste. Sasta good but hard to find. Pigeon Shredder.
Been wearing/using Dutch Army gortex jackets and trousers for the past 20 years, not gotten wet at all as of yet. So many people have to wear fashion to lay in a field, yet to work it out. As for wellintons Screwfix 👍
matone
Schoffel,Musto or Sasta.

Scully
If it definitely has to be goretex, don't overlook Laksen.
squirrel shooter
I see there is a very limited choice of Barbour goretex jackets? I've got an Barbour breathable/waterproof jacket here. Just wanted to treat myself to a new Goretex jacket and trouser set. Haven't seen much of Laksen at all? Scully
Laksen make some of the best gear out there. I have had one of their jackets for nigh on twenty years now, it is still my go to jacket when the weather is abysmal. Can’t recommend them enough. My experience is that their shirts are poorly constructed, On the 17.5 inch collar one I have, the cuffs would just about fit the wrists of a 10 year old! Scully
Have never tried the shirts; not sure if they make them in goretex.

I can’t fault mine at all, it is the only goretex jacket that has never let me down. Edited October 1, 2018 by Scully
