Anyone who thought they knew everything from day dot was wrong, and anyone who thinks they know it all by the end of their time has settled for "good enough" or simply doesnt care enough to continue the journey. Your work is nothing to be ashamed of - just look at the hundreds of guns you see with rounded off but ends and a valley between the pad and end, checkering sanded over or even worse run over with some kind of dremmel attachment and little consideration. Here are some recent works for the enjoyment of people who like to see this sort of thing! Superb workmanship demonwolf444 thanks for your post. ditchman
time to assemble....... the first time the new ox spring (for the merc s) was too long....so took it apart and cut 3 coils off...shaped it and heated the end so it could be bent a bit....then grond it off flat 90 deg'........... assembled it all using just molyslip on the piston and lithium grease on the ram (back end only) and spring....made 2 leather washers top and bottom.....all went together well... fired it 20 times to settle it in and get rid of the desieling...then chrono'd it....... SUCCESS THIS WILL SETTLE DOWN NICELY NOW....................... one was a bit naughty ....but hey..

figgy
When you say leather washer back and front is that either end of the ox mainspring? A lot of tuned air rifles end up with more power as they settle in and need another coil off. Looks a sweet looking gun and a cracking refurb and tune. ditchman
all assembled now...........havnt shot any targets yet........as the gun will now go to my mate who will make a nice plain leather adjustable shoulder strap for it with sold brass buckles....he will also match the colour of the stock (near enough) to the leather work...... so more or less it is done..........one thing i will say ...it is a total crying shame that they (bsa) decieded to make cheap plastic sights for it..........ive seen better stuff come out of a bloody cheap xmas cracker.......such a shame......................so there you have it ... a classic English air rifle Mercury Mod' "S" .22 Calibre i will post the finished article up when its all done.. cheers for watching Ditch....(the air rifle fiddler)

Mr.C
So are you using molyslip on the piston seal and the cylinder? Used graphite in my Rem but considering stripping it back down and using molyslip instead of the graphite powder. It's still low on power but to be fair its not had a great deal of lead through it since.
