MARSH GUN
How many on here use boats in their wild fowling? I use small boats on river and on washes.

mudpatten
We use a variety of boats to access the islands in the harbour. Within reason, the bigger the better `cos it can get get seriously lumpy with wind against tide. Do you include punts in your enquiry? Did this a couple of years ago. mudpatten
I also found this clip which, if nothing else, illustrates how open the water is.
guy baxendale
I do occasionally use a flat pack 'Portabote' as a taxi to access hard to reach/ quiet foreshore areas and also on the Ouse Washes...... the joy being you dont need a boat ramp to launch it. Given the limitations of the boat i can only do so in relatively benign conditions and wouldnt want to take it out in anything wild.

Also gives the dog somewhere dry to sit. If it blows up rough or a bird falls in the strong ebb and I think it's a risky retrieve for the dog, it's easy to launch and retrieve the bird from the kayak. Pic afloat with the dog attached below. Mullard83
I use a aluminium boat when it gets deep for wildfowling between the new & old Bedford rivers in Welney. I wouldn't be without it, as it`s so light I just slide it up on the roof rack add a couple of straps & away I go. Dan.
henry d
Lot of guys use them on the Tay to reach inaccessable areas, I have been shot at twice by some of them, however they are the minority.

henry d
Using powered craft to flush duck from the reed beds where it just so happened that me and a friend were standing when the guy in the bows fired, totally illegal and reported on both occasions. All mod cons and no expense spared , that was one of a number of house boats on the estuary where you could sleep overnight and then get away early in the morning on the flood tide , the boat sheds where the punts were kept were on the other side of the estuary, these sheds were a bit more elaborate , not by much mind you 😊
