marsh man
Have anyone else noticed the rape is now looking a lot Greener and have now started to take off ?, one field near me is already a foot high in places and I believe without going and have a look that the odd plant have already got a Yellow flower on. On the local gardening programme I was listening to Saturday dinnertime they were saying a lot of plants are a month early , today we went up the coast road and there were masses of Snowdrops , Crocuses , Daffs , a few Tulips and blossom on the trees . In my garden I have got a flowering Cherry tree that have been in full bloom for a good week or more and when we had the Beast from the East a couple of years ago it had buds on with no flowers till mid March , it might be early but nature normally even things up in the long run . B725
The rape near me looks terrible only a couple of inches high, but the field's are so wet, loads of ground that should be in wheat has not even had a plough near it.
aga man
Rape very hit and miss here. Fields that got established early are doing well and will shoot up when they get some sun, other fields are looking very poor. The wife's plum trees are in blossom and grass is definitely growing! clangerman
out of eleven fields mine range from two inches to about a foot plus one lost to the beetle thought it would be a good winter having less fields this year turning out to be the opposite with all the ivy berries on offer
Clodhopper
There were plenty of farmers out top dressing the rape in my area 2 weeks ago, so I expect it will be shooting up very soon.

Were they applying fertiliser or herbicides?
Clodhopper
It appeared to be Nitrogen from a spreader.

I had a walk over the rape field today and the Yellow flowers was certainly off Rape plants , very early when we are only in the third week of February . It seems to be a strange year, never really got cold here. I would think that we have only had a handful of very light frosts. This morning I noticed some Blackthorn in flower which is a little early for here. Whilst out flighting pigeons on Sunday morning I was tucked in a hedge next to some Brambles that were still in leaf.

When I was a young boy the daffodils were always expensive for mothers day which is in March as a lot were grown under cover , now it not unusual to see them growing outside around Christmas time , must be something in this global warming they keep on about . Old Boggy
Like others have witnessed in their area, the rape around here is very hit and miss. Several fields very sparse, no doubt hit by flea beetle, but others well up and like Marshman's field, with the odd yellow flower. Had to take a closer look as from a distance sometimes gets confused by the odd bit of charlock, but definitely rape flower.
dead eye alan
Only 4 fields of rape on my patch all eaten to the ground just skeletons left, birds still on it in small numbers. Talking to the farmer he thinks it may recover if he can get on the land and spread nitrogen on it., the rest of his fields are yet to be cultivated been far to wet, and getting wetter by the day. Going to be a lot of drilling done very quickly when it drys up. So i don't think we shall have much chance of a decent bag, however i did shoot 3 birds on Tuesday and 2 were juveniles!
