B725
Just walking back with the dog and this little butterfly came past but was too busy to stay still for a photo, I don't think I've ever seen one before, it was bright white with bright orange on the end of it's wing's. Walker570
No so common as they used to be but seeing a fair few here a few miles south of you. They are a spring ,early summer butterfly often mistaken for a large white because they flit about so fast people miss the orange tips. WalkedUp
They are called orange tips! 28 minutes ago, B725 said: Just walking back with the dog and this little butterfly came past but was too busy to stay still for a photo, I don't think I've ever seen one before, it was bright white with bright orange on the end of it's wing's. I’ve had lots in my garden the boys love them, they like the fact that they butterflies are sexually dimorphic. “That’s a daddy butterfly!” But my 3 year old did ask “What colour are the baby butterflies?” To which I replied “Caterpillar coloured” 🤣
Mice!
Two in my garden yesterday, beautiful little things, they really do look like someone has dipped them in paint.

Demonic69
I've not noticed them before, but they seem to be quite abundant this year. Last year we had larger plain white ones, this year it's mostly white with orange tips, with a few black/orange and small white ones. JKD
Yup, that certainly looks like madam butterfly 😊 The male would still be showing a bit of orange in that pose. Seen the odd one down in deepest Kent over the years,,,, lovely little things 😊 Great picture BTW 👍

B725
What made me wonder was on the other side of its wings they have black tips, I had forgotten that I've got Google lens app on my phone or I would have used that.
enfieldspares
The m ale has the orange tip. The female doesn't. But both have the underside of the rears wings with that green mottled colouration. I haven't seen one for a long time. If the roadside verges go uncut during CV-19 we might see more butterfiles. AVB
I was walking the dog this evening and came across a wild blackberry bush that was covered, and I mean covered, in caterpillar nests (the white fluffy stuff). Each nest was crawling with caterpillars. Never seen that many before.
