Danger-Mouse
It seems a bunch of back bench MPs have somehow persuaded/forced the government to do an about turn on the UK adopting Huawei's tech for our 5G network. Definitely a good decision imho.

Deker
only thing is the 2027 date, in IT that's an absolute age and most of the kit would have been replaced by then anyway.

Quite. Some would be replaced twice over in 7 years.
Westward
I think the real pressure for this move is from across the Atlantic. The Americans are utterly paranoid about Chinese tech and the fear of snooping so it's a case of: No trade deal unless you ditch Huawei 5g technology. From Boris's point of view, peeing off China is the lesser of 2 evils.

Funny that the Americans are the ones who since WW2 have been spying on everybody, seems they think only they are allowed to spy and no one else should be allowed. Problem is the Huawei kit is reasonably inexpensive, power and data efficient and available now, USA and everyone else is 5 years behind on design and a lot more expensive, hence the 2027 date. Trump was right about China long before he became president.
