Cruising through it

I see that the cruise industry has tried to 'restart' itself with a (the Sea Dream with a small number of passengers (53) and 66 crew) cruise.  Despite taking stringent precautions, Covid has struck and to date 5 passengers are ill with Covid and quarantined on the ship.

Wild horses couldn't drag me onto a cruise right now - but it does seem that they did take careful precautions - which have clearly either not worked - or some other mishap has occurred (testing inaccuracies?)

They all apparently had tests 2 weeks, 1 week and on the day of departure and all tested clear - so how the hell did they get it!!!

Any test that you get is like the MOT - you are only really covered for that point in time of the testing.

Which is why it is totally impractical to use testing as a basis for allowing contact in;

  • care homes
  • sports
  • anything else where it is used to 'prove' freedom from carrying the virus

I'm not even sure that it is all that accurate at the time of testing; in a separate article Elon Musk says he had several tests on one day - and tested both positive and negative.

Wild horses would never drag me on to a cruise ship or narrowboat at any point in time!

Narrow boats are good, nice and relaxing depending on the company.

Testing simply catches cases and stops people spreading it on, someone could have got a taxi that morning for the cruise,  picking up the virus,  it wouldn't have shown up.
