sam triple
Recently booked my boy in for his annual booster as the vets sent a reminder letter , received an email yesterday saying it’s been cancelled due to COVID even though at the bottom of email there’s a long list of instructions to follow , face mask etc to be addeared too , strangely enough though their shop remains open ! Anyone else come across this ? Is it worth changing vets ?
loriusgarrulus
Our vets are still open. You have to wear a mask. Hand your dog over at the door and only your dog goes inside. If our vet has any queries they will phone you while you wait outside. The assistant brings a mobile card machine out for you to pay. Our area is tier 3. The only problem is if your booster goes more than a few months over the due date you have to do a repeat vaccination from scratch rather than a booster, which is more expensive. I’d read something about having to restart whole process again , which the cynical side of me thought first of all as it just being a money making excorcise , I’ll be ringing around today
Centrepin
I'm with vets for pets, same here, shop open but no boosters only emergency appointments. Maybe its time to change
Dave at kelton
Most of Scotland is tier 4. Had one dog in for stitches to be removed last night and they did his booster whilst there. Also spoke about boosters for another two. Was told they aren’t doing routine booster at present as non-essential but will see how the regulations pan out. If the lockdown is extended over a period they will arrange a specialist booster clinic so nobody runs over two or three months. all makes sense to me. What !? ....that does not say much for the efficacy of the vaccine, does it ? Annual Lepto vaccine if dog at high risk - ok. Are you a vet or just a shareholder/venture capital holder in these franchises?

Sadly this has been the rules at every vet and every dog I’ve ever owned, not new or specific to this vet
Big Mat
We use one of 5 different vets depending on animal and issue. 3 are collecting animal from your car. 1 will allow you in, wearing mask etc. Other one is livestock vets and they're operating as normal, just wearing masks and distancing etc. None have cancelled any routine stuff, inlaws are taking one of their dogs to get jabbed today. Scully
We were with P4P initially for pup, and they were fine, but kept ringing us ( and mate ) querying what stage our pups were at injection wise! Mate is now with local vet in town and I’m with same rural vet as our other dog, Edited December 29, 2020 by Scully
JKD
I personally find it difficult to understand that any vet would not "treat" any pet [customer] even in these strange times. A pet can't take itself off to the vets, they rely on us [AND the vets] for everything in their precious lives !!!

If it’s true you can catch Covid from your ferret ( it is a mustelid after all, just like mink ) or it can be transferred via ferrets, then I can perhaps understand their reticence, although I understand the chance of ferrets passing on the virus to humans is very slim. I think everyone is being cautious to the extreme, but given all that’s gone on I can’t say I blame them.

I too can understand caution but,,,, if Covid was being passed on by pets, mustelids included [if they had it in the first place] people would be dropping like flies ? That is a statement and a [curious] question. If millions of humans can be treated and continue to be treated with "caution", I'm sure our pets can too 😉

Me too, just making conversation and putting across my point of view 👌 If a vet won't "treat" a customer,,,, because that's what our pets/we are,,,, but everything else in life can continue, with "caution" as we put it, then I find that unethical. Like I said, our pets can't do things for themselves,,,, except lick their own r's 😏
