old man
Before the onset of winter I filled my nest boxes with hay to provide winter roost sites if required. This week a blue has been trying to clean out a tit box and a triple sparrow box? Any activity elsewhere?

Yep, we have Blue Tits going in and out of our camera nest box, they will be looking for possible nesting sites at this time of year, one of them has been roosting in it all winter, (not sure if male or female) but now we have two or three birds checking the nest box. so they have a nice clean box come spring, I always remove all nesting material in August to get rid of any bugs that maybe in the box, I doubt they will start nest building until late March early April, this allows them to synchronise breeding so that the hatching of their chicks coincides with peak food availability. CaptC
Not Blue Tits but Raven's gliding past with beaks full of twigs nest building in a nearby tall Douglas fir - a regular nest site
discobob
I saw a pair of blue tits this morning - I told the wife to close the window and get dressed!!! Honestly though - I noticed that the bird song has changed tone just today

Before the hay I sterilised the boxes with boiling water, not aware of any roosting though.
ShootingEgg
Got two boxes up, put up last year when we moved in. But so far neither in use, bit of a shame as the feed station is a hub of activity at times
Ratmanwan
Watched two scrapping on a lane yesterday, really going for it just like Robin's do. They were hanging on to each other for at least three minutes until I went to pick them up then they released and carried on over the hedge. I've seen Blackbirds fighting, House sparrows clearing out old nests and heard Song thrushes singing. This weekend's weather will put a stop to such behaviour.
