I once worked on a crude tar refinery that produced the stuff, when it comes out mildly hot it's bloody lethal to any exposed skin. Used to get the odd barrel to do fences and posts with. Was the best stuff I ever used. Farmers can still get decent creosote if you know any. Son in law had some round posts soaking last year in front bucket for a week before using them. Rob85 Posted yesterday at 16:10 Share Posted yesterday at 16:10 I've heard of people making up their own kind of creosote with stuff like used engine oil and thinned with diesel/paraffin. Anyone heard of any weird mixes for wood preservatives? Always remember that tar/oily smell of people painting fences with creosote

You can still buy real Creosote, iirc I pay about £40.00 for five gallons.👍.

figgy
Don't worry about your dog's, it's pungent enough that they stay away. Telegraph poles are done with it, love the smell of it in summer.
