redial
Sorry if this has been covered before. Following a near miss and having heard the crash for cash stories. I am thinking of getting one. Just a basic model or it would be worth more than the car. Thanks in advance.

The point of a dashcam is it's about preserving your liberty - how much is that worth to you? Whilst we do not, yet, have in this country a presumption of the motorist being at fault should you injure a cyclist or a pedestrian, we are not far off that. That said, a basic petrol station model will do that. Always assuming of course, that it's always running, you've spent the £10 on a quality memory card for it, and it hasn't fallen off the windscreen and you've chucked in the glovebox in disgust. If you wish to protect yourself from 'cash for crash' scams, you'll need a forward and rear facing system, about £80 or so should get you a good one. Also, budget a morning of fiddling to run the cable neatly to the rear camera.
del.gue
I have a Nextbase 412g and its been pretty good. You need a good quality SD card and remember to re format the card every few weeks. I have had other cameras and few have wrecked the cards if you dont wipe or re format them.

hedge
I have a Nextbase - very pleased with it. Excellent quality HD with GPS so you get speed tracking and location on it. If you get anything too low spec with poor image quality it's not really much use when you need it.
saddler
swmbo just bought a new SatNav for herself - it's a Garmin - and it has a built in dash cam feature with quite good resolution. It also has lane change warning buzzers, collision warning buzzers, traffic moving away buzzers. etc...! Seems a lot easier to use and it WORKS unlike the cheap RAC dashcam she had previously
Not2Night
After sales service from next base is a joke
Stimo22
I brought a nextbase camera and a hard wired kit. When it arrived there was no micro fuse box fitting. Emails nextbase and one was sent next post so service was good for me
