henry d
We are looking to buy a house and the kitchen has rather dark wood doors and if we are successful we would like to replace them with something lighter. The worktops are good, solid marble so we would like to keep them hence replacement rather than rip out and replace. Is it a DIY job or better to use a joiner or specialist firm? Any other information or things I have not thought about? Muchas gracias!
ditchman
as i understand it...........it is just a replacement job............unless the carcass is bespoke made.....
Scully
If theyre fairly modern units the doors will just unclip from the hinges. Many are of a standard size if this is the case, and come in a variety of colours and mouldings, and easily replaced.

Windswept
There does seem to be a trend of painting the existing doors. I don't know if that's an option? Edited June 10, 2021 by Windswept

It was and may be the first thing we do, along with other decorating, as Covid has sent prices and availability all to 🐓 but just as an interim measure and something to occupy us with during wet days Edited June 10, 2021 by henry d

Down South
If you buy replacement doors don’t forget to check hinge spacing. It’s a fiddle to redrill cabinets, a good mate can testify!

vampire
You could just paint doors but do prep properly.Replacing doors and handles/hinges is an easy job if you're kitchen is modern current sizing.
Demonic69
There's a company in Sheffield that will make doors to your exact specifications, including hinge holes etc. Then it's a simple swap over. There's probably similar local to you. We were looking at online places a few years ago, the prices weren't too bad at £20-30 a door, probably more these days though

One of our friends did this and did a great job, she also did the work tops. Again thank you for all the advice, we appreciate all your input.
