cartridge
why do people have a prefence over cartridge casing (fibre, paper, plastic wad) ,what difference does it make?.
bobt
Do you mean wad? I only use fibre wads. paper cases get wet and stick.
Ferret Master
Plastic cases, currently got hundreds of them sitting aside to be reloaded and always use a fibre wad. FM

Ferret Master
In that case I will explain. Fibre wads are my prefered choice because they are bio-degradable. Plastic wads are just unessasary litter in the countryside IMHO. Some people say plastic throws a tighter pattern but recent tests done by the BASC showed that fibre actually patterned better the vast majority of the time. garyb
Plastic for clays Fibre for field.
ph5172
I personally use fibre purley for logistical reasons, i have noticed some grounds have a fibre wad only policy so for ease of use i buy a job lot of fibre that way i know im not going to get caught out if i visit a fibre only ground. I also think of the ecological impact of plastic lying everywhere (probably more prevelant to game shooting than clays) personally it pusts me off firing plastics but - as the mrs says clay shoots are littered with fibre wads, plastic wads and a million tons of lead anyway so why should it matter what you use on clay ground and those that are fibre only are just being picky (womans logic but it makes sense!!!) On another note i did use some plastics on tues to use a box i got free with a gun and the recoil appeared much less that fibre - it may only be my imagination tho!! Gordon R
Plastic are cheaper. Fibre use to be cheaper until someone mentioned Green policy. Now they are inexplicably dearer.

Andy W
I use both, the clay grounds I attend all use plastic so I use plastic carts as they are cheaper to buy, the Sunday shoots I attend usually take place on farms which will be reused by the farmer the following day for what ever so fibre or felt are used to avoid making a mess of his land, the difference in plastic and felt, I like eley olympic trap in plastic, Victory 480 in felt and D & J plastic are cleaner than D & J felt in my opinion. Zapp
I now only buy fibre, after seeing a well shot over rape field littered with plastic wads. I still have some plastics, and will shoot them, but once they are gone it's fibre all the way. I am switching to fibre for clays also as more than once whilst using plastics I have turned up at a clay ground only to find I cant use them! Country_est
Alway use fibre for the clays as its a mixture of the grounds I go to so its easier just to use one type. I use Plastic when shooting over the sort enviroment I normaly wouldn't ie foreshore & ponds as I have to use Non toxic shot, but htat normally comes in plastic wads
chunk
Fibre for shooting over farmland. Plastic for clays cos they`re cheaper. I hate to see plastic wads and cases left around. Its a respect thing, do farmers mind the litter?does it harm livestock? The syndicate on one of the farms i shoot couldnt give a toss, there are cases and wads smothering the area at the end of the season. Suffolk shooter
I use Plastic wadded cartridges for clays and wildfowling, but fibre for pigeon and game. Some say that fibre wads give poor patterns, but as someone has already said BASC disproved the myth. They also say that fibre wads pack more of a punch on recoil. Personally I haven't noticed any different. I use Eley cartridges for everything except wildfowling (Except duck flighting) in both plastic and fibre and haven't noticed any difference. Stick to a cartridge that gives you confidence, and you can't go wrong. SS

dazzyboi
I used to use plastics, but now i use fibre for various reasons: 1) The Clay club is fibre only, so i dont have to buy 2 different batches of carts 2) Fibres are biodegradable. 3) I dont know why but i have more luck in the field with fibres possibly because of a better pattern. Chard
I use fibre wads, because my clay club banned plastic. I was helping out during a registered competition there once, and I could see why. When I walked into the woods, off the paths, I was ankle deep in plastic wads, from before the ban :( :look: When they introduced the ban, everybody was spouting doom and gloom about bad patterns and so on, but I didn't notice any difference, I was missing just as magnificently with fibre as I was with plastic
njc110381
I use fibre because I'm an anti-plastic hippie! Why use something that's screwing up the environment when you can use a natural alternative? I have been tempted to buy paper cased ammo for a while now, and next time I may do so. I hate plastic, no matter where I see it. It's taken over, and half the time it's just a cheap and second rate alternative to a decent material! Gun stocks, car bumpers, food packaging, and even clothes. All made of man made ****e that will never rot when we've finished with it! J@mes
is plastic any more man made than metal? both come from a product that has been formed by the earth and its inhabitants....

Ferret Master
is plastic any more man made than metal? both come from a product that has been formed by the earth and its inhabitants.... A plastic wad where a fibre option is available is avoidable waste. Plastic just sits on the ground and ticks me off. The lead came out of the ground in the first place. J@mes
so did the plastic, it was oil.....but yes, I understand that due to the time scales involved of breaking down the plastic, fibre wads are preferable where possible
