mickanles
Took the dogs out yesterday morning on a local footpath which I walk daily, Half way round my spaniel brought me a widgeon which had the breasts cut out, Rounded the corner onto a track to see feathers in the hedge bottom, what a sickening sight, a heap of geese & ducks, Pulled them all out, sixteen in total all with breasts cut out, Moved them out of public view as dog walkers use the footpath / track regularly , Reported to local estate office, Why would anyone dump them for the public to see? This sort of thing is bang out of order & gives the shooting folk & bad name,
Dougy
Yes it was wrong to leave as you say on a public footpath, the only thing i would say is move them out of public view. I would not have gone running to the Estate office.
oldypigeonpopper
Hello, I would presume night poachers ?? Nothing wrong with contacting the estate office, is there a local police country watch team in your area ? Swans are still being shot or killed along the Thames as it's an easy meal for certain people , Edited December 10, 2021 by oldypigeonpopper
Rim Fire
Probably breasted out then dumped the carcasses i use all mine for fox bait after being breasted being left insight for other walkers to find wont look good for shooters
Fellside
It’s not a big deal. Someone’s used the meat at least. They’ve just been stupid re leaving them in a public place. Nature would have done it’s work eventually, but well done for shifting them away from the public gaze.

If you were poaching you'd be out of there like a rat up a pipe and deal with disposal elsewhere at a later time. Probably too many for a poaching "hit & run" as well? My guess would be the culprit is someone with permission to shoot on the land who's just stupid and ignorant to the negative repercussions of their irresponsibility. captainhastings
Only bad move was they were in public view. Thing is you go shooting and get a bag of birds which you then breast and you have a load of remains at home to get rid of. Can't exactly wedge a load of geese in your green bin so they have to some where. As said stirring up a fuss helps no one. Ultrastu
Maybe .letting the ignorant public see ,ask questions ,and then understand how and why birds are shot, isn't such a bad idea 🤔 Maybe ??

I sympathise with this veiw, however, an anecdote from my (not too distant) childhood might provide the answer. My Grandmother use to have her deceased pet dogs buried in the corner of the garden that (through, I'm sure, total cognitive dissonance) produced the best rhubarb I've ever tasted. It was years before I put two and two together.
